Despite bad weather earlier in the day and a number of regular members with conflicts, eight SABR members and friends convened at Scholz Garden on Thursday, March 29 to talk baseball. Brian Rogers brought some of his memorabilia collection, mostly involving the Braves, to display. In attendance for the first time was prospective new member, Lane Mears, whose wife is the great-granddaughter of Hall-of-Famer, Harry Hooper.
Some dates were discussed for future chapter activities. We plan to continue to get together on a monthly basis during the season. The date of Thursday, April 26 was discussed but Thursday, April 19 is also a possibility. Tuesdays or Thursdays both seem to work for most people. If you have a preference, let me know. Tuesday, April 24 was ruled out since that is the night that chapter member, Jim Baker, is scheduled to appear with Rob Neyer at a book signing for Baseball Prospectus at Book People.
If you plan to attend in April, let me know if you prefer April 19 or 26. I prefer the 19th since I have a conflict on April 26.
The second date of importance is Saturday, June 23, the tentative date for a meeting at Dell Diamond followed by a game between the Nashville Sounds and the Round Rock Express. More details on this later. We will plan for a meeting similar to last year with two or three research presentations and a guest speaker or two. Let me know if you have something you would like to present or if you know of an appropriate speaker to invite.
