Subject: [hornsby] Is this crazy?
The Astros won the first 3 games in their recent series against the
Rockies. At that point, the Astros were 23-28 and the Rockies were
20-32. Yet the Rockies win the last game 10-3.
Then the Rockies go to St. Louis. At the start of that series the
Rockies are 21-32 and the Cardinals are 31-23. Then the Rockies beat
the Cardinals in the first 2 games of the series 11-4 and 10-1.
Before these last 3 games, the Rockies were only averaging 3.83 runs
per game on the road and even now their road OPS is only .723
Here are the ERAs of the starting pitchers they beat coming into each game
Wandy Rodríguez-2.26
Adam Wainwright-3. 38
Todd Wellemeyer-5. 05
And Wellemyer had a 3.71 ERA last year. So all are capable pitchers.
The 1927 Yankees had a 4 game losing streak in late August. They lost
all those games to teams that at the time had losing records and
finished the season with losing
records (Indians and White Sox). You
could look it up.
