Plans are now in place for the meeting of the SABR Rogers Hornsby Chapter on January, 20, 2007. The meeting will be held at the LBJ Student Center on the campus of Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm in Room 3-11.1.
The schedule of speakers and presentations is attached. We are fortunate to have four prominent guest speakers representing different aspects of the sport of baseball scheduled on the program.
Former Major League Pitcher Carl Scheib, who made his major league debut at the age of 16.
Veteran Major League Scout, Al LaMacchia.
Texas League President, Tom Kayser, a SABR member.
San Antonio Express-News Writer,
David King, also a SABR member.
Four Hornsby Chapter members are scheduled to give presentations on their research, including SABR Board Member, Norman Macht who will have audiotapes relating to our chapter namesake, Rogers Hornsby.
A Baseball Trivia Contest is also planned.
I have driving directions to the LBJ Center, including a map. However, I was unable to attach them to this message. I'll try to cut and paste in a second message. I'm told that parking should not be a problem on a Saturday.
Lunch will be provided but plans are not final. Cost will be in the range of $10.00.
Another item that will be discussed at the meeting is the project to identify and
commemorate spring training sites in Texas. Co-Chairmen, Norman Macht and Tom Wancho will be prepared to outline plans and opportunities for members to get involved in this project.
In order to complete our planning for lunch and presentation handouts, we need to get an idea of how many people to expect. Guests are invited. Out of town visitors may want to spend the night and possibly turn their spouses loose in the San Marcos Outlet Mall during the meeting.
Please respond to me by Wednesday, January 10 if you plan to attend. Let me know if you have any questions.
