Subject: Are 1972 Statistics Inaccurate?

1972 Summit Series.com is proud to feature the work of Richard
Bendell. Bendell has painstakingly rewitnessed the epic 1972 clash
between Team Canada and the Soviet Union, and noticed what he believes
to be a significant number of what should have been declared errors in
the official scoring statistics. His proposed changes result in 16
Canadian players having altered proposed statistics from their
accepted history.

The full story and complete list of proposed corrections can be found at

I own and have read this book.

I wish I could say I can give it a glowing review. Its best redeeming
quality is the pictures. I got it on Ebay at half of the list price. I
suggest you look there.

Hi all,

I'm close to completing my WHA Indianapolis Racers
CD-ROM book, but have not yet found a 1976/77 team
portrait photo (or a 1977/78 color team portrait).
Does anyone here have any that I could scan or some
already scanned that I could use?

Any and all help is appreciated,

Have been spending the lockup updating my NHL uniform numbers. And a good thing,
too, as I've found mistakes.

Wonder if anyone has numerical rosters of the Kansas City Scouts teams and the
1981-82 Colorado Rockies.

Thanks,

Mark Estep

As of November 8, 2004, Clint Smith is very much alive. I had the pleasure of
meeting Mr. Smith at the HHOF induction ceremony on that date. He was the
oldest attending member (91?) and is the second oldest living member of the
HHOF. (I think Red Storey might be the oldest.)

I'm not sure how to reach him. Perhaps in care of the Hall of Fame?

Al

P.S. Thanks to the board for the information on the Canadiens v. Johnstown Jets
game.

Question for rule book experts:

Tonight's AHl game St. John's Make-Believes vs. Binghamton Senators,
Binghamton's goalie Thompson got a minor penalty at 6:06, then another one at
7:57. So he got a penalty while his first one was still going. Weird... is this
how it is supposed to work?

Not to mention, the first penalty at 6:06 was for leaving the Crease, both
goalies got it. They were at the respective bluelines pasing the puck back and
forth while the refs figured out the penalty calls from an old time 5 ring
circus of brawls. Seems kind of stupid to me... us old goalies used to do that
to generate some movement, keep moving instead of standing still in our crease
for 10 minutes. Ref should have used his judegement on that one.

Big crowd, AHL record in Canada, 17,442.

Thanks in advance,
Dave in Whitby

Goaltenders don't have to serve their own minor penalties, so they are
free to incur them any time they please. Players from other positions
obviously don't have this luxury.

I'm guessing this is what you were getting at!

Hi all,
I had an x-mas outing with the office last night and learned that there
is a fellow you is the big man on the ice with the work league. Anyway,
he claims to have been drafted by the 67s and dislocated his shoulder
after 4 regular season games and that was a career for him.

A quick scan of hockeydb and the sihr db turned up no sign of him. Given
his age, I suspect that would have been around 1996. His name is Steven
Legros.

Any info appreciated.

Mike, thanks for the reply... that's part of my question... maybe I'mmaking
too much of it, but it seems a little silly, especially if you take it to
the extreme. Say near the end of the 3rd period a scirmish broke out and
there were enough minors so that (barring St. John's goals being scored)
Binghamton would be shorthanded the remaining whole game. Then, in theory,
the goalie Thompson could slash everyone who came near his crease, take a
penalty every 10 seconds, and nothing would happen to him or his team for
the remainder of the game. He could knock the net off the posts every 10
seconds, get a 2 minute delay of game penalty, and nothing would happen. I'm
guessing though that he'd have to stop when Binghamton got down to its final
3 skaters... what happens if there are only 3 sktaers left and a penalty is
assessed... do they have to put one in the box and go with 2 skaters?

Ah geez, I wish I'd had the chance to discuss this one with Roger Neilson,
he was the master of the absurd...

I think a sensible referee who was witnessing something as cynical as
you describe would just assess the goaltender a game or gross
misconduct and get them off the ice.

It is correct, though, that goaltenders do not have to serve major.
minor or misconduct penalties, only match, gross and game misconducts.

Mike... yes, that's true... an unsportsmanlike penalty could be called to
get him out of the game. I guess it doesn't happen very often. Good way to
get rid of the other team's stars though. I might incorporate that stategy
into my peewee girls hockey team ;)

Hi,

I just recently read a story about the 1975 Central Red Army Tour of
Ontario in 1974-75. I was wondering if anyone knew of a place or
person where I could obtain copies of any or all of the tour games
(and any other Russian/Soviet tours of Ontario).

They played the Hamilton Fincups, London Knights, Sault Ste. Marie
Greyhounds, Toronto Malboros, OHA Sr. All-Stars, Ottawa 67's and the
Kitchener Rangers.

I would also be very interested in any game recaps, stories, info,
pictures, etc from that series.

Thanks for any help with this info in advance.

This was posted on several email lists.

Posted by Joe Levandosky in the www.intotheboards.net/forum:

OK....now I know that EVERYONE is confused so I will try to make this as
simple as possible.

As of yesterday (I think), the website In the Crease and the ITC Boards
have closed permanently. While I knew this was going to happen, I was
not prepared for the time-frame my ex-partner had for turning everything
off. He apparently decided to do it over the holiday weekend.

So....that being said, I am currently busy changing this forum system
over to what many of you were used to over at ITC. In addition, there
WILL be a new website to replace the old In the Crease, called
ITCXtreme. Unfortunately, it looks as though it will take me a few more
weeks to get everything together before the new website is ready.

The forums for all intents and purposes are functional. I will be making
a few changes to the team forums that used to be here....meaning I will
only be providing forums for teams where the fans are active. I no
longer see any point in having any inactive forums. I will also be
adding or removing other forums as the days go on.

I was probably as surprised as all of you were when Phil decided to pull
the plug, but hey, life goes on. I already have a new server being
configured and hopefully it will be ready by the end of next week.

Until then, feel free to point your friends to these forums.

I will not change to the new domain until the server is ready.

I hope this helps clear up some of the confusion.

I think it is almost as simple as that...I read somewhere, maybe in Hockey
Hall of Fame Legends, that the treks gave a type of unity to Canada, linking
a distant Dawson City team, or a team from Nova Scotia, to travel to play
for the Cup. Reaching all across the nation...

I think it is also just the colorful concept...this team from the middle
of no where on the frontier actually getting to challenge for the Cup!
And the way they had to travel...practicing in refrigerator cars on
railroads etc...
Did it change hockey? No. I think the romanticism is in just the
opposite, the utter impossibility of such a series in any other era. It
was the games wild formative era. It was something we will never see the
likes of again, and I think that folks even sort of felt that way back
then...it has an almost surreal aspect to it.

1971-72 was the year the "GAG" line of Jeane Ratelle, Rod Gilbert, and Vic
Hadfield had such a fine season (as did the team itself.) However late in the
season Ratelle suffered a broken ankle and missed the last part of the regular
season and I believe most of the playoffs. Who replaced Ratelle as the center on
the GAG line while he was hurt?

Speaking of dumb goalie penalties. My son got called for Delay of

then another one at 7:57. So he got a penalty while his first one was
still going. Weird... is this how it is supposed to work?
