Does anyone else find it odd that the NHL lists W-L-OT in their standings?
Shootout losses are lumped in with OT losses. If they are going to do that, why
not just call the column "Ties" like in the old days? Isn't that what it is... a
point for earning a tie at the end of regulation. For the purposes of the
standings, especially the published standings, what purpose does segregating
types of ties serve... especially when they do it badly with the grouping of OT
and SO ties?
There is no distinguishing between types of wins. You cannot tell from the
published standings how many wins a tema go tin regulation time, OT, or
shootout. Why on earth would they them care about differentiating types of ties?

JP, thanks for the post. Very thought provoking. I'm trying to think back to when I was first introduced to OT and shootouts. I have never felt shootouts to be...
Lloyd, I'm all for seperating out wins to give precise information... you'd need 7 columns with the 1st 3 dedicated to regulation time (W-L-T) , then 2 for OT...
