Death of Hamilton Tigers / Birth of NY Americans   Message List

I'm looking for information on the sale of the Hamilton Tigers in
1925
to Bill Dwyer, a NY-based bootlegger. The story I've always heard is
that after a strike by the Hamilton players (who weren't getting paid
for play-off games) the entire squad was suspended by the NHL, and
the
team was sold. The question is who bought them? Most sources say
that
it was Dwyer. But, I've recently come across some materials
suggesting
that the actual owner was Tex Rickard, the man who controlled Madison
Square Garden and later founded the Rangers (the NYC Amercks rival).

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Yup. I wouldn't expect more than 35,000 words, and that's assuming the photos are reproduced at a quarter-page each....
