It was not the same team as the junior team. When the four WHA survivors joined
the NHL they did so virtually as expansion teams. They gave up their rights to
all but four of their players and then participated in an expansion draft.

I have a couple of questions about the Winnipeg Jets I was hoping to get
insight on. First the name; my understanding is that Ben Hatskin, the team's
founder, had entered a team by that name in the Western Canada Junior Hockey
League in 1967. When he entered a team in the WHA, he kept the name. Was this
the same team, as in, the same players that played WCJHL played in the WHA? Or,
was it just the franchise rights? Secondly, I have read that the Jets had to
give up alot of their players when they joined the NHL. Does anyone know why?
