Although Datsyuk is a very good defensive player, he is overmatched in tight quarters with large forwards such Getzlaf and Thornton. Selke voters are somewhat influenced by offensive production. Datsyuk is not the best defensive forward in the league in all situations. Open ice...yes, against large power forwards along the boards..uh, no.
As I've pointed out in the past, if you don't like the ratings, you are more than free to change them for your league or your personal use. 1000000+ test games is a statistically significant sample, but perhaps not enough to ensure 12 sigma at a 99% confidence level.
Let the debate begin.

So this is a weird one...with ALL of my season disks (dating back to the NHL
50's disks) I've always added a gross misconduct rating for some of the guys who
had a rep to fight dirty. For instance, take Schultz in the 70's, I'd give him a
222 (which is the highest gross misconduct rating possible) and he might get 1
or 2 gross misconducts over the whole season.

So for most guys who fight at all, I'll give them a 1 just to represent that
slimmest possibility that a gross misconduct COULD happen. It was almost unheard
of to see someone get a gross misconduct on the more recent disks from the
2000's because I only rated everyone a 1.

Now, I'm working with the 0809 project disk, and I threw in a 1 gross misconduct
rating for anyone who fights maybe 5 times or more a season. And all of a sudden
there are tons of guys getting multiple gross misconducts, while only rated a 1!
I'm even seeing guys picking up 5 or more while only rated a 1!

Does anyone have any clue what could be going on here? So far as I can tell,
this is no different than I've done with all the other project disks, but gross
misconducts almost never happened on those disks.

The stock disk has all the gross misconduct ratings set to zero, since the gross misconduct penalty was removed from the NHL rulebook in 2007.
I had no gross misconducts occur in nearly 1 million test games during the disk process.
The ratios of many ratings changed to make things more accurate....it is possible that this is causing an amplification of gross misconduct penalties when you change the rating. Not caught in testing due to the all zero situation for the disk.

Aaaaaaayyyyyy-Oooooooo

I would like to run a fast, simple 6 team league most likely starting with the
49-50 season. Here are the basic ideas I've been kicking around so far:

*start with 49-50 season (most likely. This is the first season with the 70 game
schedule. 42-43 is another possibility, as that was the first season of the
Original 6)

*play through 67-68 season (last season of Original 6. Could play further with
expansion if people choose, but that will keep us busy for awhile)

*commish sims all games, 70 game schedule

*fast sims! Each regular season is 7 weeks, each team plays 10 games/week (on
average). This means that, including drafts and playoffs, I expect each season
to take 3-4 months, so we should be able to get through 3-4 seasons per calender
year.

*no injuries, players restricted by actual NHL GP. Something like anyone who
played over half of the NHL season can play full season. Less than half can play
half season.

*19 round initial draft (snake style)

*teams skate 15-17 players (1 goalie)

*roster size 20 max

*keeper league, no dispersal draft, no protections. You keep your players, but
may need to release players if you have over 20.

*free agents picked up based on previous season's standings

*rookie draft each season, based on previous season's standings

*playoff gp...10% of actual gp per playoff series, rounded up. (ie, anyone who
played 60+ NHL games can play in all 7 games of a series. A player who played in
10-19 NHL gp can play in up to 2 games per series, etc)

*trading allowed, trading of draft picks only allowed for the upcoming draft.

*after playoffs but before next entry draft, trading of picks an additional
season in advance is allowed. But not DURING the draft. This is to allow the
trading of a 5556 1st for a 5657 1st, for example.

*fc fightsim for fight results

As of now, there are 4 spots filled, so that means there are 2 spots open. Let
me know if you're interested. Thanks.-Brad apbaahl@...

APBA Hockey Fans,

I really need some help from one of the many good programming guys.

As most of you know I am making a season disk for every year, please download
and look at the attached file, so you can see my problem within the file.

I was trying to use Windows movie maker for a DisneyWorld movie, it won't work,
downloaded some other movie programs from a friend and finally gave up.

One of the movie programs is trying to open files in APBA, I don't know why or
how to change it?

I uninstalled the programs that I recently added, but the files are still
looking like a CD?

Thanks Anthony Blanda

If you have Windows 7 Professional, you can download a free program from Microsoft. (Virtual PC and XP Mode)  This will essentially allow your computer to have two operating systems and partition the hard drive.   Windows  7 will be the default and you can switch to XP Mode when you run Virtual PC.  Info is available at the Microsoft website.  It is only available for Windows 7 Pro.

Brian/Hockey GMs,

I am setting up a new computer today with Windows 7. Could you please send me a link that explains how to get a DOS box to operate with APBA hockey, this last email that I saved looks like an update would follow?

Thanks in Advance,
Anthony
