Kristen, I completely disagree with your statement that it is not WSRC's
call which classes are eligible.
Historic is listed as an eligible SCCA Club Rally category & class in page 9
of the SCCA October 2002 FasTrack.
http://www.scca.org/news/fastrack/02-10.pdf
While the actual class rules might be in flux (and I personally think the
rules should be further diluted to encourage people to enter and then
further segregated
e.g. by capacity as more entrants arrive) the class should be a ClubRally
class for 2003, based on my reading of FasTrack per above.
You said in the press release: "We have no interest in establishing classes"
although it appears to me that WSRC can work to un-establish them.
The rules at
http://www.wsrally.org/rules.html say:
"The following five classes will be eligible for WSRC trophies: Open, Group
2, Group 5, Production, and Production GT. The Historic class will not be
included in the championship."
If they went to the trouble to mention it is omitted, one would assume it
was a candidate ClubRally class in the first place. If it wasn't a Club
Rally class, why even mention it?
Not only that, but the WSRC Chairman said this in his reply to me on
SpecialStage:
http://www.specialstage.com/forum/cgi-bin/DCForumID2/685.html#16
"We discussed it but there is practically no participation here in Historic.
I reviewed Ben's Rally Page for past results, as well as looking at this
year's club results in the western states and saw only one historic entry
(Keith Wheeler, who has since moved to Arkansas). I know Richard Byford is
also H-eligible, but I see him listed regularly in Group 2.
Since all Historic cars also fall into one of the five club-level SCCA
classes, and there are practically no entrants, we decided it would be
simplest to award trophies only for these five classes."
I think either the WSRC can take an active role in encouraging participation
in multiple events on the west coast in ALL SCCA Club Rally classes, or it
can be selective about what classes it includes.
Furthermore, the WSRC is actually ACTIVELY HARMING the historic class's
future by the WSRC Chairmain suggesting above that because eligible cars can
instead enter the exisiting G2 or G5 classes, they should enter there
instead!!!! Instead, WSRC should be encouraging existing G2/G5 cars that are
historic eligible to move across to historic!
If the WSRC recognizes the Historic Club Rally class, and accumulates series
points for it, I will do my best to attend and compete in every WSRC 2003
event in that class, and encourage other entrants to attend. If they don't,
I will restrict myself to more local Club Rally events.
As the WSRC chairman frequently says "Rally on!" just not in historic class,
eh?
Glenn
P.S. IF YOU BUILD IT, THEY WILL COME.
