Persona joins Targa Newfoundland as "Gold" sponsor
ST. JOHN'S -- Persona Communications Inc., a leading provider of digital
cable television and high-speed Internet services to Newfoundland
communities, will be one of a select group of high-profile "Gold Level"
sponsors of the 2002 Targa Newfoundland international automobile rally,
event organizers have announced.
A multi-year agreement between Persona and Newfoundland International
Motorsports, organizers of Targa Newfoundland, will help showcase the
Persona corporate name and brand inside the province as well as across
Canada and beyond, said John Reid, vice president of marketing and
communications for the St. John's-based company.
"We're building an association with an event that has a good future, at an
important time for us," explained Reid. "We have just completed a
corporate identification change and we intend to use our involvement with
Targa to help communicate our new brand and corporate ID."
"We also think there's a great parallel between our brand and Targa," Reid
adds. "We associate the speed of Targa competitors with our high-speed
Internet services and the entertainment value of the event with our cable
television services. We think it's a great fit."
Persona Communications Inc. is Canada's fifth largest publicly-traded cable
television provider, offering premium cable television, high-speed
Internet, data and telecommunications services to approximately 400,000
customers in more than 1,200 non-metropolitan communities in British
Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and
Newfoundland. Persona serves 50,000 households in Newfoundland and
Labrador. The company is also poised to enter the Caribbean
telecommunications market with its recently announced acquisition of
Columbus Communications Ltd., the controlling shareholder of Cable Bahamas
Limited.
Now in its 16th year of operation, Persona will soon employ more than 500
people on a full-time basis and has divisional offices in Edmonton,
Sudbury, Montreal and St. John's, which also serves as the company's
corporate headquarters. Persona Communications Inc. is a public company
with its shares trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange (symbol: PSA).
"Persona is a great Newfoundland company and a terrific supporter of this
community," said Targa organizer Bob Giannou. "We are very proud of our
association with them."
Targa Newfoundland is organized by Newfoundland International Motorsports
and sanctioned by the Canadian Association of Rallysport (CARS).
