Len Picton's baby needs new shoes:

"I have been able to find some nice radial tires for tsd rallying on
asphalt, but tires for sand and dirt so far elude me," he says. "I used to
run Cooper Weathermasters or Canadian tire Highway Byways in the old days
(35 years ago) because they were cheap and had strong sidewalls.
Size(s) needed for my Saab 96 are 165x15, 155x15, 500x15 or 550x15 with a
mud and snow tread pattern. This is the size used by VW Beetle, SAAB,
Volvo,
Healey, MGC, etc, but I can't find the combination I need anywhere. Does
anyone have anything up in the rafters that isn't dry rotted?"

We tend toward Hakkapeliitta NR09s in 165-15, but these may no longer be
available. Ah, but there is a Hankook replica with a similar tread pattern!
On our Saabs, the Hankooks feel a bit "squishier" than the Hakkas, so they
may have thinner sidewalls.

I've seen enough Cooper ads lately to think they must still be around, but I
don't know what sizes they're making anymore.

A quick Internet search shows:

Hankook-Tire Zovac HP W401 165 R15 86Q bespikebar, BLT

I don't know what all that means, but at $39 apiece at tires-easy.com,
what's not to like?
