We received the sad news of the passing of Shekhar Mehta.

Rosie and I only had a brief encounter with Shekhar for a few days of each
October when he competed in the Southern Cross Rally.

Although brief, those annual meetings were memorable. I remember well...

Shekhar was in our Sydney home playing with our Old English sheepdog,
"Shaggy Shoes"; Shekhar remarked he was going to call his own dog "Great
Reluctance" so when he was jet-setting around the World rallying, he could
bid Yvonne farewell and say, as he skipped through the airport departure
gate, "I am leaving you with Great Reluctance"
.... and then he would laugh as only Shekhar could laugh.

Legendary rally driver Shekhar Mehta, died in London, Wednesday, 12 April
2006 at the age of 61.

Mehta was a many-time winner of the East African Safari Rally, and best
known as a driver for the Datsun team in the 1970s, though he did drive for
Lancia for a short time.
