We're on the calendar . and ready to do it in the dirt !!
The Southern Cross Rally returns to Port Macquarie on July 1 - 3, 2005
In response to our update, we have received a few questions and assuming there
are others with similar queries, here are some clarifications and further
information. We'd be very pleased to get more queries fired at us - that way we
find out what you want to know.
Also, we would appreciate any stories from your recollections about your days at
"the 'Cross" (that are suitable to distribute in printed form).
Dave Hill has been in touch; he is looking to extend his slide collection
featuring the days of the 'Cross and other rallies of that era. Those of you
who have bundles of slides taken at rallies in the sixties and seventies, stored
'somewhere' and currently doing nothing much, can contact us or Dave, if you
know him personally. We are looking also for suitable venues to have a slide
night. Slides of S-L-I-D-E-S!! Way to go! (That's real 70's stuff.)

The Southern Cross Rally will be route-charted, with tulip diagrams and written
instructions included.
Mapped references and details showing the route for the section/s will be
included in the Road Book/s; however navigation will not be required in order to
follow the correct route.
The course for the Southern Cross Rally is very compact. Competitors and/or
their support crews will be severely penalised if they deviate from their
prescribed route/s. This will be regarded as negligence and pose danger for our
road crew officials who will be travelling on roads other than those in the Road
Book.
With our style of charted instructions, we leave the reading of the general
attitudes of the road to the crew on board each vehicle. There will not be a
continuous series of 'Road goes left' and 'Road goes right' instructions.
On the other hand, take note of everything mentioned on the chart.
If the tulip diagram shows a curve sweeping left and the instruction reads 'Road
goes left. Do not cut', it will be there for a reason!
