I watched a small (type I) Curta go for $2,000 US about a week ago. A
couple bidders really wanted it. I sat here and refreshed my screen
several times in the last few minutes and watched it climb. (Living
vicariously through Other People's Ebay Bids. It was a slow day....)
There must be some wealthy vintage ralliers out there with a big event
coming up soon.
The Heuer rallye master set is wonderful to look at but I don't see the
extreme value in a non-hundredths reading timepiece. That said, somebody
will probably pay 10 grand in a few years for the same set. (I should
get our retirement plan administrator to consider Heuer/Halda/Curta
speculation! Can't be any worse than the last five years in the market.)
