My high school girls have Teneo high jump shoes. They love them.

Fit and feel are most important. I had old Asics and they were perfect for me.
After some thousands of jumps I needed new ones and went for the new Asics. But
they did not feel good! I now have Mizuno, fit is OK but they are a bit soft, I
think. The stiff Adidas and Nike did not fit my feet but for somenone else's
feet they can be perfect.

The mizuno is the absolute lightest I really like it but it is not very durable. Nike is a very solid shoe with good support. Adidas is a little heavier. If they made asics in my size I would choose it.

I don't know which are best these days. I would just have to say any brand of shoe designed for high jumping would be good. Our kids have jumped in Reebok, Adidas, and Nike. Just get the cheapest pair on sale.

Boy, it sure is quiet around here. Too much excitement and interest
in Cross Country??
Had a "benefactor" help our high school track team with a new Gill
Collegiate Pit and set of Gill Collegiate Standards. Now I just need
to find a couple of collegiate level jumpers to go with them.
Thinking about not pulling them out too early this season until
we "earn" the right with some good training.
Anyone catch that the University of Oregon fired their jump coach a
few months back? Pretty good indication that the Ducks will be a
distance program for at least the foreseeable future.
Not much in way of indoor track around here unless you make the drive
to the University of Washington for the high school and open meets.
Have a great winter -- we start pre-season "optional" conditioning in
January. Might use the new pit and equipment to recruite some
basketball and volleyball players.

Hello,
there is a new international discussion board online for all sports.
There are apart categories by discipline. So there is also a
highjump-category ;-)
The board is just online since yesterday, so sign up and start making
it an interesting discussion board :-)

Have you seen interesting things in Beijing's high jump competition?
The Dutch Television had a great site where athletics could be followed without
jumps to
other sports. Sometimes even more than one channel was reserved for athletics, I
sometimes
had three channels open at the same time, seeing nearly everything. Maybe this
service is an
option in other countries too, but for me it was the firts time. So I have seen
the last jumps
of the men (did not have time for the first part) and nearly all of the women's
competition
without interruptions. Great! For example because not only succes but also
failures could be
studied.
Stefan Holm has a dangerous technique. For speed in his rotation he moves both
heels
towards his trunk during the arch. But at 2.36 he was a milisecond too late with
stretching
his lower legs and so kicked off the bar with one heel. The rest of his body had
much space
above the bar... With a less dangerous technique (lower legs pointing to the
ground until the
bar is cleared), he would have had no diffiiculties in jumping 2.36...
The winning jump of Silnov at 2.36 was with rather poor technique, not enough
rotation. But
so much height, no wonder he had a near miss at 2.42...

To increase the enjoyment of the imminent start of the 'real Olympics' - track and field (;-) - even further, please find below links to several prediction contests. It will amaze you how much fun it can be to suddenly have a 'personal favourite' in an event you hardly may have looked at otherwise...
To level the playing field, I have also included a few predictions made already by people in the know (like at Track and Field News). Make sure to stay tuned to your athletics media of choice for last minute witdrawals and injuries! (like Noguchi/Marathon women)
NB Registration and entry at www.atletiektoto is fully operational now!
If anybody knows more contests, pools (or well-sources complete predictions: please let me know. Enjoy!

He is living and training at the IAAF World HJ Centre in Cologne. There are
4 or 5 3rd world country athletes there on IAAF scholarships.
The coach is Wolfgang Ritzdorf, former German womens national coach and
coach to Heike Henkel (2m07)
Denis Doyle
Yes, I remember competing against him last year at the all African
Games where he jumped 2.27, He trains with this german coach who has
helped him develop as an elite high jumper. he jumped 2.30m at the
african champs in 06, and he was also in osaka where he finished 9th i
think, so he has been around but he is just not consistent enough. I
used to have chopping short steps like that before my current coach
corrected it, and i feel better converting the force to vertical now
But yeeah it seems to be working for him, because he brings in lots of
speed.
A few more years and he will need to be on Phillosan (if anyone can remember
the advert). I don't think they are on the banned list

Topic is the amazing one nowadays. He's 37 and jumped 2.27m this year. Charles
Austin wasn't too shabby either. He cleared 2.30m indoors when he was 35.

However, Carlo Thranhardt jumped 2.42m at the ripe old age of 31.
Carlo was 30.64 years old 'only'.
I think Paklin's indoor best is 2.38m from 87' when he and Avdeyenko tied for

Sorry Kgosimang or Kgosiemang...
Oh, I see he is on youtube with quite some jumps. Kgosiwang or Kgosiewang. His

fine, his run up looks a bit simple, short strides, but seems to be effective

Larson ( http://www.alltime-athletics.com/mhighok.htm ) has 46 entries for
Paklin but
nothing at age.
By the way, that new star from Botswana, maybe the first star from Botswana,
Kabelo
Kgosiwang, I have not yet seen his technique. Any of you?

IAAF only gives 2.38 indoors and 2.41 outdoors for Igor, plus some lower
heights, but all in
his mid 20's. Maybe he looked older?

I'll check.
Holm jumped 2.37 at decimal age 32.13 years. Sorin Matei jumped 2.38i at age
31.57.
