well it was the olympic trials dennis, how could you not be pumped up.  Three week's prior to that i jumped at the tac me at mt.sac.  I got there late and didn't have a chance to warm up properly.  By the time i got to the infield the bar was at 7ft.  i politely asked could i have a jump and everyone turned around and looked at me,Ben field's say" little brother, the bar at 7ft"  So i run up with my sweats on and everything and just blasted it,that day, i knew i belonged!  By the way, talked to Coart owens yesterday. 7'2 at alameda 7'4" at arizona state,he told me to tell you hi!

You must have been pumped. People will never forget you either.  There must have been some serious pressure.  My hobby would have been complete just being there.

Thank's Dennis.  The thing about what we did was the memories, you cant ever forget some of these times.  One of my favorite was the "80 olympic trial's in eugene! 62 jumpers, starting height 7'13/4" jumping behind jacobs and in front of stones,oh my God.  I'm twenty year's old, these dudes are my idol's,and here we are in eugene where the crowd know's who you are, what you've jumped in 8th grade even.  so i absolutely crashed the first jump, then boomed the next one. jumping in between two of the best ever, and reprasenting, doesn't get any better than that!

Hi Dwight,
Dwight, you inspired me to continue jumping after high school after watching you break another record in 74. I quit my job in El Paso and went to Mesa CC (Arizona) to get in shape and and to see if I could catch up to you. Guess what? While at MCC I learned how to over do it with squats with Ron Semkiw and watched him throw the shot one day for a 70 1/4 record throw. I still had fun and loved the rush of clearing the bar at any height and enjoyed the all-comer meets around LA.

Thanks Kerry,
All the other jumpers had a bad day and I took advantage. How come you didn't show up at all comer's meets at Berkeley? You might recognize a couple of guys in the one photo, Maurice Crumby and John ??do't remember his last name who jumped for Cal a few years. I guess my biggest claim to any fame at all was being briefly ranked 17th all time in 1970 with a 6'10" jump at 16 years old, it didn't take much.  We had to be crazy back then landing on pieces of foam in a net. I don't know how many times I went through and hit the ground.
Thanks for noticing Kerry, I really need an ego boost right about now.

Hi Dennis

Interesting photos. The first appears to show you jumping off the inside
leg.

Is that what you did?
