The same applies to high jumpers - great variation can be seen. A slapping sound is often indicative of a poorly timed or 'heavy' foot plant. Not the most efficient way to jump but you can get awy with it if you are strong
You might hear an increase in sound on the curve from harder working foot contacts but much depends on the running mechanics of the individual jumper. It might be beneficial but again may
If you are looking for a sound it should be more of a hollow or resonant sound. Compare a sweet spot hit with a tennis racket compared with an off centre hit and it becomes quite obvious
