Best thing to do is call around to local high schools and see if they
have any old ones they aren't using. In my area I found three schools
that had replaced pits and were trying to figure out how to get rid of
the old ones. I have a sports training facility and a son that high
jumps, so I asked the school my wife works at and they had three pole
vault pits they were about to get rid of. I rented a truck for a
couple of hours, grabbed the best of the three and brought it to my
facility. After that I made standards out of PVC and we use a weight
string (designed for jumping, my high school coach gave it to me).
It's not a top of the line set up, but I have four high jumpers
working out with me now and we get the job done...
