I also jumped against Tyke a few times during my career and I can tell you, if he could really take-off from the TOP of the key (roughly 19' 6 " - 5.95m) then he was in the wrong event. With skills like that he should have been a long jumper/triple jumper.
I was in "Slamfest" in 1988 with Olympic triple jump champ Mike Conley and on his last effort he took off from about 6" (15cm.) in front of the free throw line and barely managed to slam.
Just keepin' it real.

However that was Tyke Peacock. By the way Tyke (Champaign ,Illinois)
was the most fluid, springy, less than six foot tall jumper I ever
competed against.

i jumped against tyke peacock while i was at the college of alameda,
tyke was not under 6 ft here was 6'1 at least, i was 5'9 so trust me i
know. i beat tyke at the bruce jenner and the northern cal and he beat
me at fresno and state. incidently we had the same exact height's in
the four event's, 7'0 both at jenner, 7'2" both at fresno, 7'0" for me
at n.c. 6'10" for tyke and 6'10" for me at state and 7'0" for tyke.
But i will say, nobody came off the ground like tyke, me him and milt
goode used to play basketball together, tyke could take off from the
top of the key and dunk, kid you not!
