MELBOURNE (AUSTRIA), Jan.13 - Morocco's top seed Younes El Aynaoui is
doubtful his heel injury would let him take part in next week's
Australian Open, after failing to show up in the eight-man field for
the warm-up event at Kooyong.
El Aynaoui, 32-year-old, earned himself a place in Australian Open
folklore last year when he played an epic quarter-final against US
Andy Roddick, the American prevailing 21-19 in the fifth set.
He rated his chances of playing at Melbourne Park at only '50-50' but
he said that with the right treatment those odds could improve.
"I'm in good hands here in Australia, with intensive treatment every
day. I still hope I'll be able to participate in the Open next week."
"The doctors are pretty confident the inflammation can go away", he
added.
Meanwhile, Argentina named its squad, including its two best players,
5 world seeded Guillermo Coria and 8th seed David Nalbandian, to play
against the Moroccan squad.
