There were no big surprises in the composition of the Moroccan and
Swiss teams to meet in
this weekend's Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group Qualifying Round
tie in Casablanca.
The only small surprise was offered by the Moroccan team: it listed
Karim Alami and Mounir El
Aarej in the doubles, and not the two stars Arazi and El Aynaoui.
The competition will start on Friday with the match between the
Moroccan No.1 Younes El
Aynaoui and the Swiss No.2 Michel Kratochvil. The second match will be
between Swiss team
leader Roger Federer and the Moroccan ball artist Hicham Arazi.
Six thousand fanatical spectators will attend the matches - expected
to be an intense Davis
Cup battle - in the completely sold out Complexe Al Amal. Both teams
number their chances
as 50 per cent: Morocco will be playing home advantage, but
Switzerland's Roger Federer is the
best individual player.
Violent sand storms in Casablanca in recent days have made regular
training difficult. With
play scheduled to commence at 1100 hours local time on Friday, both
teams will be hoping for
better weather.
