News:August 2, 2005 - Marshall wants out of the Tennessee Game.
In an article written by John Brice for The Nashville City Paper, Brice writes
that Marshall
wants out of the Tennessee game. Here's an excerpt... "KNOXVILLE — Less than a
month
after releasing Tennessee's 2006 and 2007 football schedules, UT athletics
director Mike
Hamilton's work may not be done.
The Vols could have a hole to fill on their 2006 schedule.
Hamilton had a recent conversation with Marshall Athletics Director Bob Marcum
during
which time Marcum indicated the Thundering Herd had an interest in backing out
of their
Sept. 23, 2006 game at Tennessee.
"I called (Marcum) the week before the British Open (July 4-10) and asked about
the
possibility of whether or not we could look at moving our date in 2009 to a
later date in
the year," said Hamilton. "I was not even talking about not playing the game but
playing it
at a later date on the calendar.
"That's when he mentioned the possibility of not wanting to play the (2006)
game."
Marshall would forfeit a guaranteed $550,000 payout and instead face a $300,000
breach
of contract payment if it chooses not to come.
