According to the WV Metro News Marshall and WVU will announce a 2 for 1 starting
in
Morgantown with the middle game in Huntington and the last game in Morgantown. A
twist has been added to the series that gives the winner of two of the three
series games a
forth game hosted at their stadium... " MetroNews has learned, in piecing
together the
details from a variety of sources, that the contract for the renewal of the
football series
between West Virginia University and Marshall University will be a four-game
deal. It will
not, however, be a standard three-for-one (with three games in Morgantown, as
WVU
wanted) or two-for-one (as Marshall wanted). Instead there seemingly will be a
unique
twist in the four-game contract, as the package will reportedly be a 2-1-1.
According to sources contacted by MetroNews, the series will start in 2006 with
the first
game being played at Mountaineer Field in Morgantown. In 2007, the state's only
two
Division I-A football teams will meet at Joan C. Edwards Stadium in Huntington,
and then
the series will shift back to Mountaineer Field in 2008. The uniqueness of the
contract will
come in 2009, as that game could be played in either Morgantown or Huntington.
The
team which wins at least two of the first three games will also get the
opportunity to host
the fourth game of the series. Thus the deal could be a 3-1 in WVU's favor, or
it could turn
out to be a home-and-home."
