Reported in the Herald Dispatch- "According to the flier, while Manchin was a
state
senator in 1991, he introduced a resolution that would have eliminated the
teaching of
basic science at the Marshall medical school. All such instruction would have
had to have
been at West Virginia University. That would have had the effect of killing
the Marshall
medical school, the flier says. At the time, Manchin's district included Marion
and
Monongalia counties. WVU is in Monongalia County. The flier also quotes a
newspaper
article in which Manchin described Marshall as "a second-rate institution."
