I'm not second guessing the choice of the Herd to switch leagues because I don't
know what I would have done. However, the MAC was clearly the better football
conference this year and should have put more teams in bowl games (namely NIU
and Toledo).
Since CUSA's bowl contracts are up after next year, what are the chances that
some of those bowls will move to the MAC leaving CUSA only 2-3 bowls and giving
the MAC 3-4? Excluding MU and UCF, the MAC will still be a tough conference.
If NIU, Toledo, Miami, and BGSU either play top teams close or beat a couple of
them, the bowls might take another look at them.
What a nightmare it would be if MU moves to CUSA, finishes 3rd and sits at home
because NIU, Miami and BGSU got bowl bids.
Finally, there's an article in todays Charleston Gazette quoting Kent's AD as
proposing MU and UCF be excluded from championship eligibility next year. If
that flys, it will be two years in a row MU sits home even if we go 9-2 or 10-1.
