Ed,

Not sure if you skate in leagues at TECO but if so...beginner/intermediate
would be the novice & Tier 3 league players and intermediate/advanced would be
the tier 1 and tier 2 league players (people who played in high school and/or
college or from birth...LoL).

Not sure which week yet...hope to hear from people who were in week two last
year and find out which week they are going this year...was a really nice
group of people at all skill levels.

Keep in touch and maybe we can coordinate something on transportation.

my direct 3-mail address is rolhock@...

This specifically pointed to Steve. You are traveling again from Naples? What
session are you going to? I live in Cape Coral. Myself and probably a couple
friends will be going this year and we may be able to correlate something
regarding the rental car.

I have a question for anyone out there who wants to answer. There is a
beginner/intermediate and a intermediate/advanced clinic for adults. Can
someone tell me where the differences will be found in those two clinics?
Playing here in Florida there is a whole spectrum of abilities, everything from
"can barely stand up" beginners to ex pro/semi-pro skaters. What is
intermediate?

First, let me say that I would be very surprised if you did not love the camp
and really learn a lot.

I have played sports all of my life...started roller hockey at 49 and need a
new sport at 56 so took up ice hockey...I started on my own without any
coaching or instruction and was at a big disadvantage to those who had been
coached.
Instruction and coaching has been a great help to my game as it was in every
other sport I have been in...there are so many subtleties to the game that
can only be learned in a controlled environment. Also, you will learn drills to
practice to improve specific aspects of the game.

Transportation: I flew into Minneapolis from Naples, FL the day before as I
wanted to meet relatives that live in the area. I rented a car and drove to
camp but found no real use for the car during camp. Will probably do the same
this year and would be nice to find someone who wants a ride and will share
some of the rental car expense. The camp offers one bus run to the camp and
airport...so if you choose this, you have to meet their schedule.

Hope you will attend and learn a lot...I know I did...

Just to say hello. I went in 2002 and had a blast. In 2003, I took
my two sons (Mite and Squirt) to camp and also had fun (although the
Saloon is not open as much). My highlight was playing in the
Staff/Parents game against Steve (no one on the staff wants to be on
his side since he runs his team like an NHL coach, I hear).

Now it looks like I'll be the camper in 2004 so hope to see some of
you there.

   Hello everyone,

I hope you are all doing well and getting into the holiday spirit!

I have something unfortunate to report: Dave Merino, who plays on
my company team, was slammed into the boards on Thursday and broke
his femur. He had to undergo an operation on Saturday and is
presently in intensive care. I went to go see him Friday morning
and the first thing he mentioned was seeing tapes of camp. I'm sure
he'd love to hear from people at camp either through email, or if
you want to send him something, he is at: Littleton Adventist
Hospital, 7700 S Broadway Littleton, CO 80122. He is being moved
around the hospital as his condition changes so his room number is
changing accordingly. If you send something to the hospital, he
   will get it.

I'm not sure how often his wife is checking his email as she is
usually at the hospital. If you send email to me directly
(todd@...), I will make sure he gets it.

   Best,
   Todd

PS: For those of you that requested the DVD of camp, I haven't
located a camera to transfer the tape to my computer (though I just
found out Dave has one). It is on my list of to do's so I'll try
and get it done after the holidays. Sorry for the delay.

I don't know who that drill is worse for, the guys who have to make
sure they are constantly moving and passing, or the poor sap who has
be constantly skate back and forth watching both nets!!

Looked in my drill book as well and only found Russian Circles, but
this is a Russian "cross ice" drill....

BYH COACHING DRILL OF THE WEEK
THINK CROSS ICE TRAINING IS FOR MITES ONLY?
Guess again. One of my favorite drills for my Junior teams was the
Russian Any-Net Drill. This drill is fun for all ages, and increases
speed, quickness, close quarter skills, tap passing, stick handling
and is great for goaltender conditioning. Here is how you run the
drill:

Use cross ice in one end of rink (blue line to boards). Place two
nets back to back in the center of the zone. Place one goalie in one
of the nets, but advise him that he is responsible for both nets.
Line up your skaters along the blue line of the zone you are using.
Separate them into two evengroups, one on each side of the ice. On
the whistle, the coach sends one puck into the zone and three players
from each group in after it. The players must NOT SKATE WITH THE
PUCK, rather they must tap pass constantly. Players play three
against three. Players can not stop moving their feet, must stay in
constant motion, and can shoot on either net. The goalie must
defend both nets. If one team scores, the coach immediately sends
another puck in. If a puck leaves the zone, the coach sends another
one in. The drill should last 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, the
coach blows his whistle and the next group of six skaters and one
goalie replace the first six and original goalie. You must emphasize
tap passing, moving of the feet, quick transition from O to D, and
staying in constant motion. Run this drill for at least ten minutes
at the end of your practice. Players will have fun, increase skills,
and leave the ice gasping for air. Try it!

for someone called a Russian Cross hockey drill and couldn't find
anything. That's why I was assuming you maybe meant Russian Circles.

Hi everone,

It is great to see all the new photos on the web site. We are going
to run into a problem with strorge space if people kep downloading
such large files. We have all ready used 54% of the storage space we
have, Yahoo onlly allows 30 MB of storage for photos.

What I need everyone to do is to send smaller files. This can be
done by saveing the photo to you computer and slecting the format
button and making the photo a smaller file. The photo will still
look great and will down load faster to boot!!!

Also I need the people that downloaded larger files (more than 100K
to delete them and resend then as smaller files. In doing this it
will allow everyone to keep sending the photos that we can all enjoy.

Thanks again for doing this.
Keep you stick down and your head up,

Sharkie

Hi,

First I would like to thank all the old and new members of the
Heartland Hockey alumni group. I have some big shoes to fill to do
as good of job as Dave did. This is the first tome I have tried this
so I am on a learning curve. I set the group up as is to keep spam
out. It is to bad it has to be done this way, but it is the times we
live in. I will try to approve posts and new members within one day.

The first group was also very fun. It was very hot the first two
days but the ice was hard and fast. I played about four hours a
day. It was a lot of ice, but it was very fun. I met a lot of new
faces this year. Both groups I felt were good to work with. Everone
tried very hard at the drills and I saw a lot of shots. The last
game I think I let in thirty shots but I did stop Steve three times
in a row. That was a real rush for me.

I would like to thank Steve, Sandy and the rest of the staff. The
big thank you is for the campers themselves. Without all the
encourgement I got and support it would not have been as much fun.

One more thing. The web site was not posted at camp for the first
group. If anyone knows of anyone in the first group that may like to
join, please let them know. If you would like, send me the E-mail
and I will send a invite.

I see some phots have been posted. Feel free to post anything in
somewhat good taste.

If you have a idea to make the group better, please E-mail me

I follow Andy in that I also extend my thanks to the hockey camp
staff for a wonderful camp experience. I would like to extend a
special thanks to all those that encouraged me and helped me during
this experience. Many of you gave of yourself to help me and that
will never be forgotten - it was truly overwhelming to have such
wonderful support. Each day, I looked forward to spending time with

Steve, I hate to hear that you are having problems with your back...I
know that it had been bothering you while at camp. Glad to hear that
the doctors are taking care of you and truly wish for you a speedy
recovery. I know that you would like to get back to skating as soon
as possible. I will be thinking of you!

Jen, if you are out there somewhere....well, I never really got to
say my full goodbye before I left. I wanted to tell you that you
were an excellent and generous roommate and I thank you! I enjoyed
our late night conversations (since that was the only time we saw
each other). You gave much enthusiasm and encouragement! Thanks Jen
for letting me be your roomy!

Friendship to all! Take care everyone!

I think in the second week of camp, we had probably 40-50 campers
(there were a little over 20 in my group), so he must be saying he
had 60 campers each week. It was the most awesome time ever!

Hi Robert, each of this year's adult camps had 60 skaters, 30 of
which were beginner/intermediate and 30 of which were
intermediate/advanced. (Actually each group had numbers in the high
twenties, but you get the idea.)

This was my first year, but everyone I talked to said the two-group
configuration was a lot better than last year's three-group approach.
I know I liked it!

Best regards,

-Marc Nathanson

Hi all,

Steve emailed me back today, clarifying the schedule for next summer.

For those that attended this year's camp. Is he talking about 2
groups of 30 each week (60 campers each week) or is he talking about
30 campers each week total (60 campers over two weeks)?

have any conflicts with the regular adult camps, as they
went better than ever this summer. We had two groups of 30
and it was perfect. We will never have three groups again,
as it is just too hectic, crowded and conjested.
Have a great season!...

How'd camp go this year?

I noticed that Steve has two weeks of adult camp scheduled for next
year again. However, he also has something called "NHL Alumni Fantasy
Camp" scheduled at the same time as the second week of camp. And it
costs $3000! Anyone know what's up with that? Was it a scheduling
mistake? I don't see how Steve has enough room, nor ice time, for
both camps.
