Great to hear from ya Mattie! Glad to know
you'll be back for Week 2 and looking forward to
catching up on all your adventures. Hope you'll
break away from the A group for a bit and spend a
little time hanging with the cool B kids. :)

All the best,

-Marc

Markie Marc,

Hey sorry it has been so long since we have chatted. I hope all is well on the
East coast. Just wanted to drop you a line to let you know I will be there for
second week. Of course I have to say that I will be putting my mad skills into
the A group again. But I will be there for a beer or two.

Have a great weekend and maybe we can catch up some time.

Well, it is almost that time of year once again for the "week two
people" to rule the world...well at least the world at Heartland Hockey
Camp. Hope everyone had a good winter with lots of hockey.

Would enjoy hearing who will be attending week two...the really good
news for everone is "Montana Magician" has informed me that she has
registered will be there for week two...I have not registered yet but

Hi,

It has been very warm up here in MN. We still have outdoor ice but
there has not been a below zero day all of 2006 so far. I hope
everyone has been doing well on the ice. Feel free to drop the group
a line to let us know what is going on.

May the puck be with you,

No objection from me...now for the real question...who will be there in 2006?
Received my brochure and see week two is August 20 - 26th...

Steve Jensen is back down in Ft. Myers Area...had the opportunity to play pickup
game with him two weeks ago...amazing how he lifts the intensity just by being
there...really makes it fun...he has a camp in Ft. Myers this weekend...I can't
make it as have roller hockey league games Thursday and Friday nights.

And just a reminder to all in case your forgot his favorite words..."No! No!
No!...That's Not Right!...Steve Knapp LoL

Hope to see you all in August...and have a safe and happy holiday season....and
a hockey kind of day...

Steve,

Any word on the DVD? Is it coming any time soon? Ron, myself and a few other
that I have gotten emails from are kind of anxious to see it. Thanks.

Kristina,

One parting thought..."week two rules!...all others drool"...LoL Little inside
humor...as many of the week two adults have gone to the second week camp for
three or more years in a row...so really have a bond and always welcome new
people with open arms...you won't find nicer people in both campers and staff.

Save those pennies, nickles, and dimes...hope to see you at camp next year.

Dear Steve, Elliot, Rana and Justin,

Thanks a lot for your messages. It is very encouraging to receive so
many nice answers.
I am probably going to be part of the group next summer if I can get
all the money together for my flight (I live in Switzerland).
I was actually afraid of the age because I am 19 years old and I was
afraid of having a hard time integrating, but all these friendly
answers have really helped me overcome this fear.
Thanks again,
Kristina

Kristina,

Well, this year I believe I got the prize for oldest camper at 59...not sure
what youngest was but somewhere in early 20s...so as you can see, there is a
great deal of varity...not just in ages but in skill levels...have players who
are just getting started and some that are highly skilled. Being broken into
two groups takes away many of the issues there and the coaches work very closely
with newer players to help them.

I really believe that you will not only enjoy the camp but gain a great deal of
benefit from it...the first year I went (3 years ago) was the first year I had
ever played ice hockey (started in June and went to camp in August) and it
really helped me to move my game up.

If you want to get a shorter version of the camp, you may want to go to one of
the three Clinics in Ft. Myers that Steve has scheduled...does same dirlls and
stuff but in only 3 day format.

If I can answer any specific question, please feel free to e-mail me on this
site or direct at rolhock@...

Hi everyone,

I have been reading the messages you've sent about the camp and it
has
been very instructive. But I am still a little scared about a few
things:
- what is the average age in camp?
- and with only 2 years of hockey experience am I really gonna be
able
to keep up with the level ?

This message might sound very childish (yeah it really does !!) but
these two apects are kind of making me nervous...

Well, thanks for reading this message and maybe we'll see each other
next year.

Kristina

At a guess I would say the average age in the beginner group is 30+,
if not 40+.

You should have absolutely no worries about keeping up. First, two
years is more than enough to have sufficient skills to make major
progress while you're there. You are measured against only
yourself -- no one is going to make you do pushups if you come in
last or something like that. Second, the group is extremely
supportive and bonds very closely. No one is going to make you feel
like you don't belong, not least the instructors who are also very
good. As an aside, you can take private lessons in the evening if
you want even more instruction. Finally, you always learn more when
you skate with better skaters.

I went for the first time when I had probably one year of
experience. The only consequence was that I was perpetually
crashing into people as I tried to stop. I've since gone to another
adult camp, and two kids' camps.

It is a great experience and you will love it. The only caveat is
that you need to be in reasonable shape so you can make it through
all the hours of instruction without falling apart. Of course, I'm
43 so the wear and tear comes easier!

Ask if you have more questions....

Well, thanks for reading this message and maybe we'll see each other
next year.

Kristina

Hey Jessica, it's a awseom camp, I've been twice and
love it. It's all about hockey and the coaches and
people that attend are top notch. Let me know if you
have any specific questions and I'd be happy to
answer.

Thanks so far for everyone's input. I think I'm sold on the camp
just by the few that have replied back to me.

I don't think I can attend both weeks of summer camp and the clinics
in FL., as just the summer camp itself is costing me "almost" 2
grand. I'm flying from overseas as well so unless I find a deal, the
flight will cost me just about as much as the tuition. Unless I win
the lottery..... but I don't play the lottery so i guess that
cancels that out, but thanks for the info anyway!

I've been playing hockey on and off for fifteen years. This year I'm
playing for two mens teams (they're aren't any women's teams in the
area I'm in here), but that's okay because I like a challenge. I
played hockey year round for two years prior to moving here also (a
womens winter team and a co-ed summer league in Alberta.) I am in
love with the game and always have been. It runs through my veins
and I think about it constantly.

I think I'm in the intermediate/beginner level as I don't know how
to take a real slap shot, and my backwards skating is shall we
say... not that great. It's really embarrassing sometimes because
everyone thinks I should be Wayne just cuz I'm from Canada.

I try really hard though and I think I'm always improving. This year
should be good though since I'm playing on two teams and the one
team will challange me if I get on the team. I'll find out this
Saturday so I have my fingers crossed!

Anyway, thanks for all the input and I hope to get to know some of
you. Thanks!

Jessica,

This is truly hockey, hockey, hockey, at it best. Steve Jensen runs an
excellent program that is useful for both experienced and new players and
anywhere between. The drills are excellent as are the instructors. He limits
the number of people who attend each adult session and breaks them into two
different groups based on skill level...so a new player is not overwhelmed and
an experienced player is not held back.

This was my third year in a row...we had many third year, second week people
back...which speaks volumes about the program. Available ice time is really
more than any person could use. The optional time at night provides people the
opportunity to choose how much time they want to spend and what to spend it on.
The three ice session program they are now using is the best...two
instructional/drill sessions and one scrimmage combined with a film review and
dryland shoot training. The optional ice time is at night and in two
sections...first part to practice what you have learned or what you need
practice on and the later part open scrimmage.

Meeting people and making friends is no problem...probably because everyone has
something in common...the love of hockey...I made friends the first day of the
first camp and each camp after and stay in contact with many campers during the
year both on this site and directly by e-mail. Just before camp time, you will
see e-mails asking which "second week" people are coming back as that group has
formed a real friendship/bond...but always welcome new people...

Food is excellent...plenty and healthy...prepared by Steve's wife Sandy.

I have a friend who went to camp in Canada for several years and raved about it
until he attended Steve's Clinic held in Ft. Myers...he is now a
believer...Steve has three sessions planned this year for Ft. Myers, FL which
teach the same types of skills but in a three day program. Information for this
is on the Heartland web site. For anyone who wants hockey combined with
vacation, Naples/Ft. Myers is a great area particularly during the Winter when
it is really cold up north.

If you want more information about the Camp or Ft. Myers sessions, you can
e-mail me directly at rolhock@... or post here.

Hello All,

I realize that it's only about a month or so since you all attended
camp, but I'm looking for somewhere to attend in the summer of 2006
already.

Any week long camp is costly and the good ones fill up fast, so it's
not something I want to leave until the last minute. I've been
searching extensively for a camp that I think will meet my needs and
wants (obviously). So far I've emailed around 10 or so schools, but
it's Heartland that has caught my eye and stuck in my head to attend.
I've had my heart set on Can/Am for a few years, but I've never been
able to attend due to work reasons, etc. I have never attended a
hockey camp before but I've wanted to for a long long time. I decided
next summer is it.

Can/Am, American Hockey Schools, Banff Hockey School, Canadian Hockey
Enterprises and Planet Hockey are just a few that I've been looking
at. I had a friend who attended Banff Hockey School and she said it
was really overcrowded, but I thought I'd include it in my camp
research anyway. Can/Am, well after thinking and thinking about it I
realized it's more of a relaxed approach than I would like. It does
state that it's not a "conditioning camp."

The reasons I'm now seriously looking at Heartland is because it looks
more like a HOCKEY HOCKEY HOCKEY type place. That's what I'm looking
for. I want to meet friends and have fun with other activities as
well, but I'm sure you all know what I mean. The yahoo groups is
another reason I like this camp because I can talk to players who've
attended, which is great. I also like the idea of unlimited ice usage
so I can play and practice as much as I'd like to.

Another concern of mine was that I'd be traveling alone and would I
meet any friends or just end up being alone the whole time, etc. After
coming here and visiting the website I realized that it won't be the
case with Heartland.

Any information to seal the deal would be great. If I do attend I will
be going for both weeks. I'm from Ontario but I'm now living in The
Netherlands so I would be flying from overseas. The other question is
what the other newbies asked, where should I fly into and all that
jazz. I'm wondering if trying to match my flight details to the camp
transportation details is too much hassle, or if I should just do what
others do and rent a car and drive to the camp. Anyway, any help would
be great. I guess I'm done rambling for now!

Okay I just got confirmed for Week 2.

Steve, glad to know you'll be back again.

Chad, sorry to hear you're doing Week 1 this time, you were the man last year.

Matt, I'm bummed that you're dogging us intermediates for the
advanced group this time. :)

Michelle, I can't believe you're doing two solid weeks. Cool!

See you all next month,
