Also check out:

for conditions in Western MA.  Notchview and Stump Sprouts are probably the best in this group.

Andrew,

Try http://www.xcski.org/ to find touring centers. You will find that the unreliable snow of the past few years has killed off all but one touring center in CT. Winding Trails is really a golf course. If you are serious out XC skiing, you must travel more an 1-2 hours from New Haven. For the casual day outing following a storm, there is excellent skiing in many of the CT state parks, nature centers, land trusts, etc. In CT, if there is snow on the ground, the skiing is where you find it.

My favorite place these days is Prospect Mountain (http://www.prospectmountain.com/) near Bennington, VT. This is a 3 hour drive for me and maybe a little more for you but well worth the trip.

Go back to the CT AMC website and join the other two email lists on the skiing page (http://www.ct-amc.org/Skiing/). The xcct list is popular with people in your area and the eastern part of CT. The CTNordicSkiers list is quite active already with reports from all over.

Think snow!
Jim

Hi, I'm an AMC member contemplating moving to New Haven during the upcoming year and
I'm just wondering if anyone might know the nature of XC skiing and snowshoeing
opportunities in the New Haven and extended area (within about 1-2 hours).

Thanks!
Andrew
