Hi everyone. Today, while riding my bicycle on the Kal. Highway,
Hawaii Kai bound, just before the turn at the bottom of the hill from
the Makapuu lookout, a Red Van, Plate number GDP 470 tried to
deliberately run me off the road. He pulled along side me within
inches of my left elbow yelled at me using various profanities then
forced me unto the shoulder, pulled in front of me and then slammed
on his brakes. I barely avoided hitting him and crashing. I had
been going around 40 mph when this stated and was in the traffic lane
(the shoulder is unrideable at that speed and there are parked cars
and rockslides, etc.) He then started a tirade of mostly four letter
words and said I had no business being on the road, etc., etc., only
when I pulled out my cell phone and dialed 911 did he leave me alone
and pull away. The driver was in his 40's I think, had lite colored
hair and a beard. I have filed a police report. If such a vehicle
harasses you please call the police, even if it is just verbal
abuse. Another incident and it will make my case against him that
much stronger.

Officer Scott of HPD was very professional and did a great job of
assisting me in filing my complaint. I have never had a motorist
deliberately run me off the road before. I have been yelled at or
honked at a few times, which I just ignore. I was quite certain I
was going to crash. I was running out of road to the right and
slowed down to make him pass me and then he pulls onto the shoulder
directly in front of me and brakes hard. At those speeds I could
easily have been very seriously injured.
