The commission voted 6-6 on the resolution to make Honolulu a bike-friendly city - so it didn't pass. HBL and Sierra Club will try again soon, though.
In the meantime, if you haven't had the time to comment on the Honolulu mass transit plan, here's the link where you can do so. I'm about to do it, and I'm going to stress the importance of including cycling infrastructure into the rail (or whatever) plan by suggesting that they:
- provide safe secured bike parking at all transit stops
- provide a means for commuters to take their bikes onto the train so when they get off, they can easily ride to their ultimate destination
- incoroporate bike paths along side the constructed transit route
Here's the link where you can submit your comment. I was told by folks at HBL and the Mayor's Advisory Committee on Bicycling that the
planners do not naturally think of bikes, and that without our comments there is a good chance that they would let bicycles slip through the cracks
