I'd like to draw our community's attention to a special event taking
place across the pond this coming Monday evening, March 17th -- the
Dunlop Masters Table Tennis Tournament to be held at London's Royal
Albert Hall, where once Bergmann battled Barna. Coordinated by UK's
Matthew Syed for a local charity, some of the leading names in
European table tennis as well as famed athletes from other sports are
scheduled to participate.
Matthew had invited Marty Reisman to participate as an extra added
attraction, however Marty declined due to his wife's poor health.
Below is a link to a newspaper article related to this event, which
also recounts to some extent our sport's history, written by that most
literate hardbatter, UK's Howard Jacobson. This article appeared in
today's edition of "The Independent".
