I believe that I may have actually prepared this footage
and sent it to Rozeanu. The one against Tanaka was from
the 1954 Worlds film owned by the USTTA, and now part of the
2-DVD set I have up on hardbat.com. The clip versus R.Rowe
was sent to me by a collector via Chuck Hoey of the ITTF
Hall of Fame.
Shortly before Rozeanu died, Marty Reisman conducted an
interview with her in which she revealed details of her
life that she had not previously shared with anyone publicly.
In return, Marty asked if I could prepare for her a DVD of
highlights of her play. I did so, and Marty sent it to her.
A few weeks later, she died. Marty never found out if she
had had a chance to see the DVD before she died. I am glad
to know that her family treasures them. (of course, it is
possible that they obtained these clips elsewhere - I cannot
be absolutely certain these are my copies... but it would
be quite coincidental).
The level of play in both is very high, particularly in the
match with Rowe. Rozeanu's defensive reaction is obvious,
but her backhand pick-hit is astounding. I think she won
every point which she pick-hit. Furthermore, I don't
think I've ever seen another player that played like her -
be it her strokes or her shot selection. And her footwork
was obviously second to none. A true giant of an athlete.
