AL-AIN, United Arab Emirates - U.S. Paralympics Cycling National Team member
Alejandro Albor (Elk Grove, Calif.) won the first round of the 2009 European
Handbike Circuit in Al-Ain, UAE, March 6-8.
Competing for the first time since his silver medal performance at the 2008
Paralympic Games in Beijing and following a six week departure from training
after shoulder surgery in November, Albor surprised himself with the overall
win.
"I came here with goals of assessing the health of my shoulder, evaluating early
season fitness and honing my racing tactics against the world's best," said
Albor. "These guys raced me really hard. This result reassures me that I am back
on track and only increases my focus and commitment to my training. I now look
forward to returning to the U.S. to resume my preparation for the World
Championships in Sevilla Spain, with the mindset of regaining the world title I
won in 2006."
Albor will relocate from Sacramento, Calif. to the Olympic Training Center in
Colorado Springs, Colo. in early April in order to maximize his preparations.
