Yahoo, world's most popular e-mail, hit by worm Reuters - Tue Jun 13, 1:50 AM ET
LAS VEGAS - Yahoo Inc., the world's largest provider of e-mail services, said on
Monday that a software virus aimed at Yahoo Mail users had infected "a very
small fraction" of its base of more than 200 million accounts. The e-mail virus,
or worm, has been dubbed Yamanner and landed in Yahoo mailboxes bearing the
headline "New Graphic Site." Once opened, the message infects the computer and
spreads to other users listed in Yahoo users' e-mail address books, security
experts said.

At last week's Rocky Mountain Omnium, U.S. Team coaches were on-hand to
check out the performance of disabled cyclists with a shot at making the
team headed to the World Championships this September. Although we don't yet
know how many slots are available for the team, things are looking hot!

On the handcycling side, the players made themselves known, and they
include:

- Alejandro Albor --- racing currently at the Elite Team Standard
- Seth Arseneau --- racing currently at the National Team Standard
- Monica Bascio --- racing currently at the National Team Standard
- Matt Updike --- racing currently at the National Team Standard

Other athletes identified who have a real shot at making the team are:

- Oscar Sanchez -- racing currently at the Emerging Team Standard
- Kim Prussia -- racing currently at the Emerging Team Standard

Athletes who are on the radar and pusing to get their times-up (and are
definitely in the ballpark) are:

- Patrick Cottini (HCA)
- David Randall (HCC1 -- a newcomer with big potential)
- Todd Richardson (HCB -- currently leading the AHS series)
- Jacob Heilveil (HCC1 -- veteran wheelchair racer)

Subject: More Handcycle Races!

Handcyclists,

In response to some grumblings about the need for more handcycle races at
cycling events...I thought I'd offer some information you may not be aware of:

The USHF American Handcycle Series (AHS) now has three tiers: Local, Regional,
and National. To become part of the series, all one needs to do is follow these
steps:
- Put together a local organizing committee (LOC)
- Approach a local bike race and negotiate inclusion
- Pay a $50 sanction fee to USHF to become part of the series (which level you
are included is determined by budget, history, and number riders expected)
- Have a minimum of 5 athletes participate
- Recruit riders, race, and have fun!

Our goal is to have more races each year where people can earn points and not
have to travel too far.

Of course, the big national races are always a great time also. In fact, why not
go to the Tour de Nez later this month !? The prize purse is over $6,000 for
handcycles and the promoters are doing it up right for this year --- they want
to grow the race for handcyclists each and every year.

http://www.tourdenez.com

In the meantime, check your local cycling club's racing calendar...they are
usually very open to including handcycles and we can help you set the whole
thing up. email us: info@...

THIS JUST IN: The Idiana Race Series in Indianapolis was recently added to the
AHS calendar for the weekend of August 27th. It will be a regional event, and we
just learned that they will include all three disciplines: Time Trial, Road
Race, and Criterium.

Details are:

It was a cool day(Warren says it was a LA freezing day) with off and on light
rain but it all went aeay for the race. Brian Mitchel 1st smokin fast today,
Jake OConner narrowly edging out Warren Strickland for seccond. Warren blazed
into a close 3rd. James Watson pulled out a modest 4th with Mark stever close
behind breathing down his neck with a 5th pace finish. Newcommer Heather Grace
pulled off a "easier than she thought" 6th with Dale Pauswang not far behind in
7th. The 2 newest racers Doug Jackson(only riding for a few weeks) came in 8th
with Grady Landrum (Quad-riding a99 XLT with MTB tires with 1 week training) in
8th.

Gearing up for tomorrows Crit! Can Warren and Jake work together and take
Brian? We will see............

Great ride yesterday. I decided just to ride the 23 miles out to Atlanta and
ride the RR course. I rode with my wife Tammy and good friend Rebecca in their
sugar shorts and bike halter tops so I had pleanty of motivation with me! The
first 20 miles were fast but Rebecca had a flat and was running a wheel and tire
off another bike because her's was flat. So we called my daughter to come get
her and we at our snack. Just as I finnished, a large group of very "fit" women
went flying by. I figured I had better get back to training and thought I would
see if I could catch the group as "motivation".... So I hit the course by my
self and Tammy waited with Rebecca until my daughter picked her up but planned
to be dropped off with me later. I kicked butt and had some wind to my back so
my speed was pretty good. About 4 miles down the road I finally caught them
(they were stopping to talk to a farmer- but I might have caught them anyway).
So I waved as I passed by and one of them
said "hey how ya doin'" it was a friend of my wife. I blazed ahead and came to
the corner before the last 6 miles and the big hill. I set my mind to powering
up like never before. I felt good. I had been pulling all the hills so far in my
big chain ring but figured I would need the smaller 2 on this last bit but I was
going to try. The first climb went ok and I kept up good speed. I was getting
ready to hammer the next rise when the group of women went past me...... The
friend of my wifes turned around and asked if I would "like some company on the
hill". I said yes and she poked along chatting with me as I climbed and tried to
talk and gasp for air at the same time. Soon I my truck pulled up behind me and
at the same time the group of women were headed back by us down the hill. So the
wifes friend who looked really "fit" said goodby to me and "hey" to my wife as
she got out to ride with me. We finished the hill into Atlanta.... WHEW! I was
winded but still felt good. We
had seen several groups of riders on the last part of the hill. It seemed 2 to
1 Female to Male. Guess the most of the guys don't care to ride the course
before hand. We headed west into the wind and it clouded up and sprinkeled on us
for a bit but other than my wife getting cold, it was a good ride back. It was
my first time over 50 miles so I felt pretty good. I was a little sore last
night but feel great today. (just a note: Cat 4 women take off just before the
HC division on the RR... so don't get distracted LOL)
Nothing like being out on your bike.............

As with any Omnium, you are not required to participate in all four
races to get points and a final ranking. Also, we are working with
Adaptive Adventures on a structure to offer travel money in
combination with prize money.

We added an additional stage to this year's Omnium for the following
reasons:

- There were lots of complaints about one-day races and too many
criteriums.
- The RMO is a World Cup race...the only one in North America. This
gives U.S. athletes an opportunity to rack up some points and get on
the radar for World Cup standings.
- The course at Table Mountain -- which is an ideal course for
handcycle racing -- is no longer available on the weekends, so we had
to shift it to Friday in favor of the alternative of cancelling it.

Hey racers. The race director is thinking of making the RR a 24 mile loop rather
than 36. This would put the start and fnish in Atlanta KS. He thought maybe the
current route was intimidating at 36 miles. What do you think?
We still have $100 stipends for non local racers. I have only gotten 2 e-mails
requesting stipends and these have not confirmed. What is holding you back? If
you are interested but having trouble affording the trip e-mail me and we can
look at our options. 1 week to race time.

Why would some one skip a race right in there back yard! Lets not forget,
not everyone rides a bike as fast as you! Plus the thought of going around
in circles. Many handcyclist, find that the marathons and 25 k race, is
perfect distance, , with excellent traffic control, and posted month in
advance, and just like LA, NYC marathon etc,.....growing!!

With that said $$$$ Money, at Cleveland Marathon! Great course, scenic
view of the lake, challenging course and excellent traffic control. Here

Rick,
Try your luck with a Giro Atmos 05 model, just bought a new one for $91.00 on
e-Bay. As Ian says: the best, coolest, lightest and best looking are more
expensive. When I was selling helmets I used to ask? How much is your head
worth? "Bell" also makes some fine helmets at a reasonable cost. My last
helmet was a MTB style, the advantage of that style is they usually come with a
visor. Great for keeping the sun off your face, well most of it.
Find one "You" like, but first go to a local bike shop and try them on so when
you bid or buy off the internet you will be assured you have purchased the
correct size. Size does matter, the better the fit the better the protection.

   Rick,

Sad truth: The more expensive the helmet, the lighter
and more comfortable.

I am partial to Giro because they are made in my home
town. Try the Atmos or the Pneumo. They're pricey
(well over $150), but it's worth it...great vents and
very light. The lower-model Eclipse is pretty darn
nice for a lot less too.

You can usually get last year's for cheaper mailorder
on supergo or pricepoint.com, etc.

HANDCYCLIST:

The Athens Twilight Criterium in Athens, GA. on Saturday, April 29th has
unfortunately been cancelled. The criterium was cancelled due to an unforeseen
road closure permit that was just brought to our attention by Gene Dixon, the
race director.

This WAS NOT an USHF decision, the decision was just made this evening by the
Athens Twilight Criterium. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Further details coming…

The 2nd race of the AHS will be the Wichita Cycle Fest next weekend, May 5-7,
in Wichita, KS. The Wichita event has been designated as a local event counting
towards the AHS points series.

   Yours in Sport,
Warren A. Strickland, Jr. MS Ed.
