Re: [handcycling] Louisiana handcyclists

Warren,
I don't know any handcyclists in your area but I am
interested in your "non-profit" chapter of the USHF.
1. Is this possible for a club?
2. How do we do it?
3. Can we raise money for our local events without
turning it over to the USHF?
We have the remnants of our old club but I don't want
to go through the org. we did before to handle the
moneies and the structure. If I can do it through
USHF, I might be able to pick it up again.
We don't have any way to involve the community in
handcycling as a sport. I am interested in forming a
racing team from San Diego but need sponsors, money
and interest.I think if the kids see this, they will
want to get involved and we will be able to include
them in junior races aqnd events.
Will you be coming out for the Omnium?
Let me know please.

Dale, I know it sounds funny but non-profits do have to file a tax return so for tax reporting purposes you would have to turn the money over to the USHF but...

From what I've been told by a large bike club, who is a nonprofit, getting nonprofit status from the IRS is not easy. It takes awhile before donors can get a...

Thanks Ian! It's good to hear local clubs won't have to go after their own nonprofit status and that insurance will also be available. Any idea on when we can...
