Well, Bob Hall did it in the 1970's, why can't HandCyclists (not crank
chairs or hand cranks) do it in CYCLING RACES in 2000's?? I mean lets
face it we know Handcycling is just another form of BICYCLING or
CYCLING. And in order for more opportunities to happen for
HandCycling, we must get out of the disabled area, wheelchair races,
and get into the cycling arena.... I mean it is not hard at all....
There is a race in Indianapolis, simply because I asked for there to
be, there is a race in Louisville and London Kentucky...SIMPLY because
we asked to be in it!! The venues are easier to deal with, the group
has more in common, and HandCycles are not breaking rules or simply
using their disability or others feeling sorry for them to get into
the event!
Check out www.2wheelsports.com and go to the calendar....contact the
directors and get it started, it is that simple!! We are talking bike
races every freakin weekend, no joke.....now we must be strategic
about how they land as far as scheduling, but the races are in every
darn state.
Also www.truesport.com has some links....or simply google your state
and cycling, all clubs are open to handcycles, and if not do it
anyway.....it's lazy not to.
Lets make it ligit and break it open....letting the public know it is
NOT a disabled sport but simply another cycling division and that
anyone can do it!!! More sponsors will pop up, maybe even bike
companies would someday look into making the freakin things!!
