RE: [handcycling] Trailering your wheelchair

As the price of gas has gone up I think about this more and more. The problem I
found with securing the front of the chair to the rear axle of the bike is the
spacing of the rear wheels, they are too narrow to let the chair in between
them, at least with my gear. I think Invacare makes a 'trailer hitch' of sorts,
but it costs a couple hundred dollars of course. I"m working on making my own
with stuff you can get from Home Depot. If/when I get it worked out I'll let
you all know.

John,Depending on your brand of hand-bike: You may chooseto use your wheelchair
wheels with or without handrims in conjunction with quick release axle system
onyour handbike axle. You have to carry an extra axleto fit your wheelchair
wheels to your hand-bike QRaxle. Put your chair behind you and secure it with
velcowstraps. I would suggest an ultra light narrow aspossible chair for your
use. It is do-able, but thisproject will cost you a bit of money, but it can
bedone.Weight is the big factor, the more weight you have onyour bike including
yourself the more energy it willtake to propel down the road.MarkHandBike
