As I'm preparing for the Fall season (Yes, fall registrations will be in the outgoing mail within 2 - 3 weeks) I have yet to have anyone contact me about being the next registrar for GVAA soccer. The duties of the registrar are as follows:
Advertise during registration periods. Help post signs, send e-mail, post information on town cable channels, etc.
Send out registration forms and place blank forms at desired locations.
Receive registrations from the PO box and process them; count money/verify payment, enter new data into excel file, distribute forms to age group coordinators who in turn form the teams.
GVAA Needs your help. As I stated in a previous e-mail, I've had this post for 7 or 8 years (I honestly don't remember exactly). I will process this fall's forms and will end my tenure by sending out the Spring '09 forms. I would prefer to have my successor in line to tutor thru a season prior to vacating my post. Thank you for your consideration and I hope for the sake of the program that a few of you seriously consider helping out or suggesting someone who may be interested. Thank you for your years of support.

George,
We tried to register Bradley on the U14 team in Woodsboro to find out they do not have a team this year. Are there still any openings on any of the U14 teams in Walkersville? If so can you give me the coaches name and number or tell me how I can get him registered.

Reminder: GVAA (U-10 & above) Soccer registrations are due in by the first weekend in February. Some may ask "Why are registrations due so far in advance of a season?" The answer is that we (GVAA coaches) must have the number & types of teams we will be fielding into the county (Frederick County Youth Soccer League) by the middle of February. Fields, times, officials, etc. must all be planned. Teams cannot be entered after this time. Once GVAA submits the number & types of teams, we are limited in the amount of late registrations we are able to accept based on the amount of open roster space on thosse already submitted. So please get your registrations in on time, it makes it easier on everybody and you get the $15 early bonus!
Please mark your calendars. The 3rd annual UK Elite Soccer Camp will be held @ Heritage Farm Park July 21-25. The morning session will be held from 9:00-12:00 for players up to middle school age with an evening camp from 5:30 - 8:30 for all High School girls. Please visit http://www.ukelite.com/Soccer-Camps/Soccer.asp for more information.
Spring registrations were mailed out today. Blank forms will be available @ www.eteamz.com\gvaasoccer , Glade Valley Allsports and the Walkersville Library this coming week. Please help get the word out!
Hi Everyone,
At last week's GVAA Board Meeting, I was asked to spread word about an upcoming
GVAA Football fundraiser.
What: An adult dance.
Where: Woodsboro American Legion.
When: December 8; 7PM-?
Cost: $25 per couple; $12.50 per person.
Point of contact for info and tickets: Nikki Musselman (email at
nikkimusselman@...)
The football program would love to have representation from the other GVAA
sports at this fundraiser.
John
Hi Everyone,
As I write this I am totally psyched that it has been raining throughout the
night and this morning. Last weekend we aerated the total soccer area, and
overseeded with 600 pounds of grass seed. In my memory, we have never been as
lucky with the weather the week following our field work as we are now.
I want to thank the parents, coaches and players who came out to help with this
work on a chilly Saturday. I especially want to identify some key players in
this work:
Jerry Byrnes: U14B coach who supplied a tractor, organized team parents and
worked on not only the U14 field, but also the U12 field which needed dirt in
some worn out areas.
Mike Ramsburg: U14B Parent and team helper, coordinated the purchase of 3 truck
loads of screened soil, purchased and picked up the 600 pounds of seed and spent
Saturday working on our fields.
Greg Clabaugh: U14B Parent who DONATED 3 dozen bales of straw for this work and
has donated compost material to our fields in recent past seasons.
Jorge Vasquez: U12B coach who worked with his son to gather up all of our
benches for winter storage.
George Wirick: U12G coach and club registrar who refurbished our storage shed
doors.
Keeping a volunteer organization as large as GVAA Soccer running requires help
in lots of different areas. I thank you all!
John Metcalfe
Is anyone coaching a U-12 Boys indoor soccer team this winter? Â
I f so Dylan would like to play somewhere and I hadn’t heard of any teams from
GVAA.
Hi Coaches and Age Group Coordinators,
I want to thank all of you for all of your hard work with our youth soccer
players this season. I know the parents and players all appreciate your
efforts.
Please remind your team parents of our field work day this weekend. In addition
to the field work, I would like a volunteer(s) who is handy to bring some
tools/hardware to rehinge the doors on the storage shed. The screws in the
hinges are nearly pulled out of the doors.
Reminder: Parents,
On Saturday, November 10, GVAA Soccer will be having a field work day beginning
at 9AM. The work will include the filling in of rutted/bare field areas with
screened soil. In addition we will be overseeding and placing straw on the
newly worked areas. This work will involve all 3 major areas of our soccer
fields and therefore we are hoping to get parent help from all of our teams.
Please bring shovels, metal rakes, grass spreaders and wheel barrows if you are
able.
Thank you.

just a quick update on last night's clinic. I had 7 coaches attend of which 5 were of the U6 program. I ran through some U6 games for them, and a few progressions of a U10 session for the couple of coaches that worked with those ages.
Initially I was worried as when the first 3 coaches arrived there was no sign of John Metcalf, and they told me you had emailed them to say only 3 coaches had said yes, so I thought it would not get many people...a long way to drive for 3 coaches!
In the end John came over at 6.10pm and a few others arrived around then too to make up to 7. I also grabbed a couple of one of the coaches kids to make up the numbers too, but they left with their dad when he arrived, and mum (who was the coach) stayed.
If we are to make the most of the coaches education for you, I would recommend you mandating coaches to cancel practices for the night I come up, as the more coaches you have attending, the better the experience for all, and then everyone in your program is on the same page when it comes to working with their teams. I also think they would then be able to provide an improved learning experience for their own players and teams when they next coach them. Just a thought.
Thanks for your help this summer with the camp mate. We would love to come back again in 2008 and do it again for you.
Cheers,

We are still accepting registrations for all age groups. We have limited space for our U-10 & above age groups while our U6 & U8 brackets will continue to accept registrations through the remainder of the summer. As always, U-10 and above (FCYSL)will be traveling throughout the county. U-6 and U-8 will play all games in Walkersville. Please go to handouts section of www.eteamz.com\gvaasoccer if you need a registration form.
Wanted: Your tired, used, worn out (even in need of repair) hoses of any and all lenghts to be used to piece together a way to water newly seeded areas on the soccer fields. Please contact Karen Metcalfe (metcalfek@...) if you have a hose that you can either lend or donate to this effort.
During the summer GVAA Soccer will be doing work on the fields at Heritage Farm Park as part of an ongoing effort to improve the quality of the playing surfaces. To complete the work as planned in as cost effective of a manner as possible, the coordinator for this project has asked that all GVAA Soccer families be contacted to determine if anyone has access to the following equipment that could be borrowed or rented at a reasonable rate, and materials that could be donated or purchased at a discount:
Straw
Screened Topsoil
Compro, leafpro or other organic material
Turfgrass blend of grass seed (e.g. tall fescue, fine fescue, ryegrass and Kentucky Bluegrass mixture)
Trailer or dump truck for moving fill and topsoil
Three point hitch mounted pulverizer
PTO-driven seeder
Lastly, any suggestions regarding providing water to the site to be used to water newly seeded areas are welcome.
Please contact Karen Metcalfe (metcalfek@... ) if you have information, equipment, materials and/or ideas to support this project.
