The St. Timothy’s Knights of Columbus will hold its 2nd Annual Soccer Challenge on Sunday, September 27 at Heritage Farm Park.  The Soccer Challenge is open to all boys and girls aged 10-14 years old and will begin at 4 PM.  The competition involves shooting accuracy as well as free kick and throw-in accuracy and distance. The rain date is October 4.Â
Â
Age group winners will have the opportunity for additional competition at the state level later in the fall.

Please contact John Metcalfe for more information.
GVAA is helping with a fundraising event at Walkersville High School for the new stadium project. On Sunday, Sept 13, Ford Motor Co. will have cars available at the High School for test driving. For each family who test drives a car, Ford will donate money towards the High School Stadium project. The event will run from 9AM until 6PM on Sept 13.
Please come out and test drive a car.
GVAA is running a concession stand during this event. Each sport is providing 2 volunteers to run the concenssion for a two hour block. The soccer time slot is 2-4PM. If you are able to volunteer your time to sell hot dogs, popcorn and soda, please contact John Metcalfe at metcalfej@....
Field layouts/painting and net stringing for the U10, U12 and U14 fields will be conducted on Saturday, August 22 beginning at 8 AM. We need plenty of help to get this done in a timely manner.
No experience necessary. Bring a pair of scissors and trash bag for the old net ties. Â
This message is going out to the GVAA Board and the various sports commissioners. We are sending 2 teams to a regional tournament this year and to offset the cost for the families, GVAA Baseball is hosting a fundraiser for the boys this Friday, July 31 at Roy Rogers. I simply ask that you shoot the following message out to your families so we can maximize the benefit to the team. Thanks, John Kutchey

The 2009 Cal Ripken 9U Maryland State Champion GVAA Wildcats are headed to Troy, NY on August 5th to compete in the 2009 Cal Ripken 9U Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament.
They need your help to offset the cost of the trip.
On Friday July 31st - Roy Rogers at the Rt 26 location is providing us a fundraiser night. They will contribute 25% of the gross sales generated between 5-8 PM to the team.
All who come into the restaurant will have to make sure to tell the cashiers they are supporting the GVAA Wildcats for the receipts to count toward our gross receipt totals for the night.
Our boys have worked very hard to get this far and they will have the thrill of competing in the Regional Tournament. Your support will be greatly appreciated.
GVAA Soccer coaches will meet at the Manor House at 6:30 PM on Thurs, July 16 to discuss fall teams for U10 through U14 age groups.Â
Parents who are intested in helping out with any area of the program (coaching, program administration, field maintenance) are invited to attend this meeting.
Registrations MUST be mailed back with a post mark date of July 13, 2009 for players to be guaranteed a spot on a team.  This is necessary to allow GVAA administrators time to determine how many teams at each age group will be placed into the league.  Registrations that are received late will be accepted only if teams have not exceeded the coach’s roster limit.
Thank you in advance for sending in your registration prior to July 13.
GVAA Soccer is now accepting Fall 2009 registrations for U6-U14 players. Players who are on our mailing list will receive a registration this week by mail.  If you are not on the mailing list, please download a registration at:

Regional Instruction Coordinator for Carroll, Frederick,
Thank you for the card & the gift cards. It was very gracious and appreciated. On a few occassions while driving through Walkerville I've found myself drawn to the post office and wondering why only to have it dawn on me that I don't have to check the PO box anymore.
We have placed team benches that are in good condition on the U8, U10, U12 and U14/19 fields.Â
Some of our benches are in need of repair. These benches are next to the soccer shed. I am requesting help from a parent(s) to repair these. This could be done while your son/daughter is at practice.
The bottom supports are either loose or have separated from the frame. I have left some additional wood out for this purpose, and there is more inside the shed on the right inside wall. I suggest having some additional screws on hand to replace the ones that were pulled out.
Coaches, please share this email with your team families.
The GVAA Board is in need of a treasurer. The GVAA treasurer is tasked with providing checks to/accepting deposits from sports commissioners, and balancing the books. This is a good volunteer position for a parent who wants to help out with GVAA but doesn't want to be involved in coaching.
If you are interested in finding out more about the position, please contact me at metcalfej@....
REMINDER -- The Glade Valley Athletic Association will be holding elections for board member positions. Terms are expiring for:
President (one-year term)
Vice President (one-year term)
Secretary (one-year term)
Treasurer (one-year term)
Board member (two-year term)
Board member (two-year term)
Board member (two-year term)
Board member (one year term, completing the unfinished term of someone who is leaving the board)
If you, or anyone you know may be interested in running for one of these positions, please email me at swillis@...  NO LATER THAN March 15th with the name, phone number and email address, and the position for which you would like consideration as a candidate.Â
A slate of candidates will be compiled and will be presented for vote at the GVAA Annual Meeting on March 31st. You may nominate someone else for any of these positions, but we will need their consent before being placed on the final slate of candidates.Â
The GVAA Board meets once a month on the third Tuesday of every month at 8 p.m. at the Heritage Park Manor House.Â
GVAA Soccer Parents,
I sent the following out to our coaches today:
Coaches,
Thank you again for the commitment that you made to GVAA Soccer during
the fall season. I hope that the season was an enjoyable one for you
and your players. Once again, I know you served us well as I did not
get a single report from FCYSL league officials regarding poor behavior
of GVAA coaches, players or parents. That is awesome.
I hope your fall tournament went well, if you brought your team. The
tourney games that we held at Heritage Farm went off without a hitch
(the exception being one team whose coach didn’t thoroughly understand
the PK procedure for ties during championship matches), and the weather
cooperated for us (thank goodness!).
I am interested in any feedback that you have regarding the program.
One of the things you should be considering for the spring is the
division/power rating you would like to put your team in and whether you
will hold Div 1 tryouts. Related to this, the league voted to do away
with roster size limits beginning in the spring. I am all for this. I
don’t know why the league should mandate to us how large our roster can
be if we do not need to present rosters/player ID at games. On the flip
side, as a coach I know how hard it is to get all kids into a game when
the roster is too large. Where this rule change helps us is in cases
where we have one or two players more than the old limit sign up for an
11 v 11 team. So, in cases where we don’t have enough players to add
another team, the coach can elect to carry the player rather than tell
the family we are full (repeat this is a coach’s decision for
registrations stamped after the registration deadline). Moving forward,
coaches should consider how large they want their roster to be when
balancing the acceptance of late registrations with getting players into
the game. It will be a good idea for coaches to email team parents with
a gentle reminder to return the registrations once the spring
registrations are sent out to parents. (We will tell you when spring
registrations have gone out.) Getting the registrations back from
families in a timely manner is key for GVAA Soccer to be able to
accurately predict how many teams to place into the league divisions.
This has a major impact on roster sizes.
I will be placing an order for equipment in the beginning of December,
so if there are special needs that you know about-please tell me. I
plan on ordering new practice balls (size 3s, 4s and 5s), pinneys, first
aid kits, ect.
I have served as GVAA Soccer Commissioner for quite awhile now, and it
is time for me to let someone else do it. I would like to be able to
groom someone during the coming season and turn it over to that person
next fall (I’m not going anywhere-I’ll still be around as a consultant
if desired…). Please consider taking this or suggesting a capable team
parent(s). I can be reached at metcalfej@....
Thank you again for your involvement in the program.

the following message was forwarded from Pauleen Condren, Tyler's mother.
Hello All,
This coming weekend August 16th & 17 "Team Tyler" is having a HUGE Consignment Sale and Yard Sale as well as an Antique/Collectibles Auction for Tyler Condren at the Walkersville Carnival Grounds. As you all probably know by now, Tyler is suffering from inoperable brain cancer. The monies raised will be used to take care of Tyler's needs for the foreseeable future as well as expenses not covered by insurance (i.e. experimental procedures). Please forward this to anyone you think might be interested.
"Team Tyler" has amassed a mountain of name brand boy's and girl's clothing from newborns through teens. Some brands represented include, Aeropostale, Gap, Old Navy, Express, Gymboree, Osh Kosh, Limited Too, etc... some new with tags!!! In addition, there will be baby equipment and toys for children of all ages.
The Yard Sale will contain Adult clothing, children's clothing, household items, etc. In addition several vendors have arranged to have their products available for sale. There will also be some private yard sales mixed in.
Saturday Evening there will be an Antiques and Collectibles auction. There will be baseball cards and other sports memorabilia, a small amount of furniture, some glass, paper, books, etc....
Please try to stop by, its a great chance to get some brand name clothing without paying retail prices.
I'm sorry, at this time we do not know who is running the U-6 program. You can try to contact John Metcalfe. I think he is the commissioner this year.

I am Thomas Pandolfi's mother... he played for GVAA for several seasons. Two years ago he collected cleats and shin guards for an organization in DC and we have about 30 pairs left over.
I would like to offer them to GVAA families for FREE.
They can contact me via email with their child's size and if I have it in stock, they can pick them up at my house in Sun Meadow.
Best,
Sharon Pandolfi
Please let them know to only use email to reach me.

3. Age group coordinators. We need to begin to identify the age group
coordinators for each of the gender/age groups. The AGC is the person who is
involved in initially breaking out team rosters. This often is the Division 1
coach, if there is a D1 team in the given age group. The AGC is also the person
that the registrar sends late registrations to for disbursement to the
teams/coaches.
4. Fall Coaches: If you haven't already emailed me with your interest in
coaching, please do so. Include the age group and gender and whether you are
interested in holding Div 1 tryouts (note: D1 tryouts are for U12 and U14
teams).
Thank you,
John
GVAA registrations are due this weekend. Registrations rec'd by Saturday will be used to determine the number of teams that we input into the county. Registrations rec'd after Saturday will be used to fil in those rosters. GVYS registrations aren't due for a few weeks (July 12th).
Get your registrations in. GVAA is due by 6/28, GVYS by 7/12. Registrations rec'd by due dates will determine the number of teams, we will continue to take registrations after these dates until those rosters are full. Please e-mail me w/ any questions!
You are correct. The dates didn't get updated on my mail merge document. The blank forms @ the library, GV Allsports and the ones circulated @ WES & Glade have been corrected. Please forward this information too everyone. UGG..Corey, thanks for catching my screw-up and letting me know.

We just received the registration forms for the fall for GVYS. Can someone please check the Birth Date Ranges for U6 and U8? I¢m not sure they are right. For example, U6 says the range is from 8/1/01 to 7/31/02. That would mean someone born in September of 2001 would be eligible and would be 7 years old during the season but should play in U6. Should the range for U6 be 8/1/02 to 7/31/03? And should the range for U8 be 8/1/00 to 7/31/02?

This is a reminder of the benefit concert being held at Walkersville High School
on May 20 at 7 PM in support of Karen Metcalfe and breast cancer research. The
attached flier has additional information.
Blank registration forms have been uploaded to the website and player registrations for both GVAA & GVYS will be mailed within a week. Blank forms will also be distributed to WES & Glade for GVYS age students (K-2nd graders). U12 & U14 coaches: It has been a common practice in the past to get your Div 1 tryouts in prior to the end of the school year rather than scrambling in August and dealing with registrants being on vacation. If you have Div 1 dates to post, please get them to me ASAP so I can post them on the website. Thanks!
GVAA Soccer Coaches and Families,
Those of you who have been in the GVAA Soccer Program over the past several
years know how much time Karen has put in as a coach, mentor to new coaches and
coordinator of field maintenance.
The attached announcement describes an upcoming breast cancer research fund
raiser that Jessica is organizing to be held at the high school on May 20.
Coaches, I would greatly appreciate it if you would forward this announcement to
your soccer families.
Thank you,
