3-Mile “Relief Run” & 1-Mile FunRun
to Benefit American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief Fund
The Walkersville High School Girls Soccer program would like to invite
all
greater Frederick area student athletes and their families to
participate
in
a special fundraising race to benefit the American Red Cross Hurricane
Katrina Disaster Relief Fund.
On Sunday September 25th at Heritage Farm Park in Walkersville they
will
hold a 3-mile cross-country “Relief Run” for middle/high school
athletes
and
their parents, as well as a 1-Mile Fun Run for children grades 5 and
lower.
The “Mardi Gras” themed event will also feature several other fun
activities, including a mist-tent, a mini obstacle course, pre and
post-race
seated chair massages, and more. Frederick County Public Schools has
also
just agreed to advertise this special event through their media
channels,
athletic directors, etc.
Runners are encouraged to please pre-register online by visiting
www.hiveworx.com/run (page will be live as of tomorrow morning) where
they
can complete a short information form – payment will be accepted on
race
day
only, please. The entry fee will be $15 for the 3-miler, and $5 for
the
fun
run—3-mile run participants will receive a race day t-shirt. Runners
under
age 18 will need to bring the race waiver form to the event, signed by
their
parent or guardian. Runners will also have the opportunity to be
“sponsored”
per mile by their friends and relatives to help raise additional funds
should they wish to do so. All race forms are located at the web
address
listed above.
Check in for the race will begin at 11:00 am, with the 3-mile “Relief
Run”
at 12p, and the 1-mile fun run immediately after. Day-of-race
registrations
will also be accepted, though t-shirts cannot be guaranteed to those
who do
not pre-register online.
Confirmed corporate sponsors include: Structural Systems of Thurmont,
Hiveworx Services of Frederick, Fitness Funatics of Middletown,
Frederick
Women’s Soccer, Radcliffe Realty Group of Frederick, and others still
to
come. These generous organizations have pledged either financial
support,
gifts of race day supplies, or manpower to help staff this exciting
event.
