The recent GVAA Soccer field maintenance day was a great success. I want to
especially thank Mr. Mike Ramsburg for his role in coordinating the behind the
scenes activities that were necessary to pull this off. Mike coordinated the
drop off of screened topsoil, worked with Southern States to get soil testing
performed, and contacted Rentals Unlimited to reserve 3 pieces of equipment
which he personally picked up and returned. In addition, Mike did some research
on both the type and amount of seed needed for this project, and he personally
delivered the seed to the soccer shed. Also, remember that it was Mike Ramsburg
who spent a number of evenings rolling our fields during the month of October.
GVAA Soccer is thoroughly grateful to Mr. Ramsburg for his continuous efforts to
improve the fields that all of our children play on.
We accomplished the following on our field maintenance day:
• Filling in of bare and rutted areas.
• Aeration of all playing surfaces.
• Over-seeding of all playing surfaces. A total of 1,050 pounds of grass seed
were applied to our fields.
• Scraping and painting of 20 goals (the 2 large, permanently placed goals and
18 goals ranging in size from U6-U14).
• Repair of player benches and subsequent storage for the winter.
Finally, the results of the soil testing indicate that in the spring we will be
applying both fertilizer (50-0-40), lime and nitrogen to the fields. Mike was
able to get a price on this allowing us to budget for this expense in the early
spring.
I want to thank the 25 players, coaches, parents and friends who came out and
worked to get all of this done on November 18. You (and we) know who you are.
GVAA Soccer is extremely grateful for your efforts.
