Bologna.

Kuerten avenged his first round Melbourne loss against

Gustavo Kuerten has made it to his first
semifinal of the season and also his first since his
victory in the Italian Open last may by defeating
Augustin Calleri of Argentina 6-4, 6-1.

He will
now face Albert Portas of Spain in the semifinals.
Kuerten has a chance to get his revenge back against
Portas, who defeated him in the first round of the
Australian Open 2-6, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6, 6-4.

Kuerten is
the top seed in the tournament and the remaining
highest seed, it seems are #7 and #8. Best luck to 1999's
best clay court player in the world.
Kuerten def. Stanoytchev 6-3, 6-4!!! He will now face Calleri, a qualifer from
Argentina. If he win he will be in the semifinal. He has a real chance to win
this tournament Let's go Guga!!!
Gustavo Kuerten will face Orlin Staneytchev (or
something like that) from Bulgaria, ranke 105 in the world.
Kuerten has a chance of doing well in the
tournament.

#2 seed Marcelo Rios, facing a comeback after
sevearl months was defeated in straight sets by Bohdan
Ulirach, his worst loss in several years here. #3 seed
Fernando Meligeni also lost due to injury :-( So Kuerten
is the significant seed left right now.

I'm
honored. Actually, I'm busy with school (you know, Hopkins
= Hard) so I don't really get to go online that
much during weekdays.
Hey simonschuang, thanks for all the
informations. Currently I am busy with school and don't have a
lot of time to check the tennis results, so I come
here to see if Guga wins. Who will be his next
opponent?
Gustavo Kuerten, again the 1st seed in this
tournament, above 2nd seed Marcelo Rios and 3rd seed Fernando
Meligeni, wins easily in straight sets. He should have no
problem winning the next round. Depending on Meligeni and
Rios' performances, Kuerten may get close to top 50 by
end of this week.
Guga was defeated in Mexico city in three sets by
qualifier Juan Ignacio Chela. Guga had matchpoint in the
second set, but the qualifer came back to win the
tiebreak and then dominating the third set. Well that's a
difficult start to the year for Guga, but that mean
nothing, I'm sure he will do well this year!!! By the way,
sorry for my very bad English, I'm sure that you
noticed that it was not my first language.
Gustavo Kuerten, ranked 148th in the world and #1
seed here, won his first match of the season over
Argentina's Gaston Etlias 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. The first set
particularly looked like a close match, with the first three
games getting to deuces.
Yesterday, Gustavo won his
doubles match as well.

Meanwhile, his countryman
Fernando Meligeni beat 1993, 1994 Roland Garros champion
Sergi Brugera in two tough tie-breakers while last
week's surprise semifinalist Andre Sa made it to the
main draw.

Good luck to all three Brazilians!
Gustavo's next tournament is in two weeks at Mexico, at the Abierto Mexicano de
Tenis. He last played it in 1998, where he lost 2R to Alejandro Hernandez.
Hopefully, he'll do better.
For some reason, Gustavo Kuerten lost in a best
of three-set match (Why not best of five?), but
Francisco Costa won the rubber match. So, it's first time
in REALLY long time that Brazil won four points in a
match. The next match should be sometime in April
against Slovakia. Both Dominik Hrbaty and Karol Kucera
are good, but Gustavo should be able to handle both
of them.
Woohoo! Good news :) It must have been great for
Guga to play in front of his homecrowd. If someone
knows against who they will play next, please tell me.
And does someone know in which tournament Guga will
play this week? Thanks!
Brazil avenged last year's close defeat when Gustavo Kuerten and Jaime Oncins
defeated the French in straight sets. I think they will face Netherlands or
Germany, but I'm not sure.
Guga was nice when I asked for his autograph,
even though I looked like a dork!. Me and two of my
friends who I went to the tournament with were sitting by
the steps that led down to center court from the
outside of the stadium when we saw him. The steps also
led to the players lounge. Anyways, I was sitting
there and Gustavo came up and so I jumped up and asked
him for his autograph. He took my ball and marker but
kept on walking with them. My friends were following
him so they could get his autograph to so I went to
catch up with them. I tried to grab my backpack but the
straps were tangled up with the chair folding chair leg
and the chair fell and made a really loud noise. My
friends still haven't let me live it down. I'm pretty
sure that Gustavo heard it but that's okay. Bye!
Hey goldtennis, you are so lucky!!! I wish I
could see Guga play one day.... Was he nice when you
asked him for his autograph? I know he is a very
special person who cares about the others. It was so
sweet from him to dedicate his trophy to his brother. I
can't wait to see your pictures!
Hello. I'm just writing to say that I like
Gustavo, he's really cool! I got to see him this summer in
Cincinnati and he was awesome! I got to see part of his
match, a practice of his, and I got his autograph! I
took a bunch of pictures of him so I'll try to get
some up if I can get them scanned. Bye!
hey, there are only bploempje and me who post
here! I'm sure there is a lot more fans out there.....
Guga is not only a great tennis player, but also a
very special person. I read this on the CNN website
today: "When Gustavo Kuerten was selected as Brazil's
best athlete of 1999 by the Brazilian Olympic
Committee, the player passed up the award ceremony in order
to be with his brother, Guilherme, who had just
returned home from an extended hospitalization. Guga's
coach, Larri Passos, represented him and read an
emotional letter from Kuerten in which he dedicated the
trophy to Guilherme." What a noble gesture!
That was on the ATP tour website: "Sydney's
top-seed Gustavo Kuerten has been knocked out of the
adidas International by Fransisco Clavet. The Brazilian
was defeated by Clavet 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. The loss will
be a blow to Kuerten's Australian Open
preparations." =((((
Yes, I remember. It was nice. Wich other players do you like? Mail me at
bploempje@... or you can give me a message with yahoo messenger to
bploempje
Bye
Bploempje
Hello everybody,Nice to hear from you Bploempje.
Yes I agree with you--> Guga is a very good tennis
player. He seems to be a sweet guy. Hey do you remember
at the Us Open last summer when Guga crossed over to
Pioline's side of the net to congratulate him because
Pioline did an unbelievable winner? That was a great
moment, the best moment of the year! This match was
simply unbelievable, one of the greatest tennis match I
have never seen. Well I hope to hear from all you
soon!
