Our house in Salt Lake City was of masonry construction PLUS a brick veneer. I
installed our steel StackOn gun cabinet myself in a closet, fastening it to the
floor and the wall. But here in Michigan our house is "modular" (factory
built). It sits on a cinder block foundation. It has been here for maybe five
years without blowing away (yet), and it is better insulated than I anticipated,
but the construction is so flimsy, I thought I should find someone with
experience working on modular houses to install my our cabinet.
I have now given up ever having enough money to find, let alone hire, someone
with that expertise, but thought maybe a guntotingliberal might be able to give
me some advice about how to do it myself. I think the floor may be sturdy
enough to fasten to, but the walls feel like a cheap grade of cardboard. Would
a stud locater (we don't have one) even work in this kind of a building?
Also, does anyone know whether there is such a thing as a 3-hour-rated pistol
safe that would attach on top of the StackOn and is also designed so the back of
the safe could be attached to the wall? The top of our StackOn is 10 inches by
21 inches.
R.M.

I had a similar situation with my place, so I cut a couple 2x4s the same length as the width of my gun cabinet, then screwed them into the wall studs (used an...
