Rant on.
The purpose of guntotingliberals was (or is) probably to provide a
forum of sorts where people can talk about guns and shooting without feeling
that they are giving tacit approval to conservative political ideology(s) or/and
to demonstrate that there are at least some liberals who don’t follow a “party
line” with regard to restricting the ownership or use of guns.
If nobody objects too strenuously, however, it may also provide a
forum in which we can learn from each other how to express ideas that deviate
from the “conventional wisdom” of the day.
One of the greatest needs in our society right now is to encourage
the teaching of ways to discuss important political issues (or even religious
beliefs, for that matter) without arguing—and to then encourage people to
actually use those skills in the private sector to encourage each other to
actually turn on their brains and think. It has sometimes been said that people
are sheep. At least in some segments of society, they seem to me to be more
like lemmings!
Several years ago, during the few minutes before the beginning of a
Bible study in a private domicile, I was expressing some of my ideas about how
to solve pressing political problems—ideas that didn’t seem to be a part of the
thinking of members of either major political party. One of the women who
listened to my suggestions piped up, “You are a moderate. Do you know what a
moderate is?”
I thought I did, but I wanted to hear her definition.
“A moderate”, she said, “is a person who any conservative would
think is a liberal and any liberal would think is a conservative.”
So I guess I’ll never get much support from either camp. But it is
more important to me to encourage people to think for themselves.
Enough of that—at least for now.
Even if you don’t know how to use a computer to generate the target
I mentioned, anyone with a ruler and a decent compass should be able to make
one. If you use that as a master to make copies, you’ll have a method of
telling me, and I’ll be able to understand, how accurately you shoot.
Maybe we could both buy identical targets. But as much as I agree
with the goals of the NRA, I disagree with some of their self-righteous
nonsense. So I don’t even want to use targets that are “approved” by that
organization.
What do you think of my target idea?

Subject: RE: [guntotingliberals] Welcome

Howdi;

It has been a while since I posted, well over a year. To be honest I think that
my political thinking has solidified a bit since then and I find myself more of
a classical liberal, libertarian (notice the non-capitalized L) really. Part of
that is I just have very little tolerance of socialism and government
intervention. I work for the government and it has been my experience that a
sure way to mess something up is to let the government touch it. I look at the
elections coming up and all I see are right and left wing socialists running for
office. I really dont want the government to fix my problems or help me out. I
have served my country for just shy of eight years. I have been away from my
family nearly half of that time. So when it comes time for me to leave the
service I really just want the government to leave me alone. Sorry to rant. Hope
you all have been well and all that. I got an M1A a while back. Shoots like a
dream.
