This is just a reminder that our second Membership Drive with Wahoo's is this evening at the Hampden/I25 Wahoo's location (6300 E Hampden Ave). The goal of the Membership Drives are to bring new players into the sport, if you have someone new that wants to play this season bring them down and you will both get a discount on the season, a free taco and happy hour pricing on drinks.
Also, there is most likely going to be a separate email about this but all evening leagues are now open for registration. This includes all team based leagues as well as our Thursday draft based Men's league. Please check out www.coloradoultimate.org for all of the information on those leagues.
Hopefully we'll see some of you this evening at Wahoo's!

To Scott (and anyone else who might be wondering):
Other than location, there are very clear reasons that Broomfield fields are head and shoulders above
anything we have available to us in Boulder. Cost (almost half of what any fields in Boulder cost),
quality, administration with the city, are just a few reasons. It's hard to believe that the beautiful Broomfield Commons fields are so much cheaper.
Additionally, the Broomfield
Parks & Rec department is very easy to deal with and they are very pleased with the stewardship that we ultimate players show with respect to the fields. We're clean, respectful (mostly), and responsive. We have established some very good relationships at the City of Boulder, and our relationship with the school district has definitely improved as well. Even so, in
the spring and fall seasons we just don't have any City of Boulder fields available to
us at any cost. Unfortunately, adult recreational sports are at the mercy of scheduling youth athletics (primarily soccer).
We realize that there is a significant desire to provide opportunities to play in Boulder, and we still explore those options at ever chance. We felt that the quality of the fields in Broomfield are far superior to anything that we might have available to us in Boulder (from BVSD) this spring, so when they became available, we made the change. If you had already made plans to play this spring, we apologize for any inconvenience this causes you.
We hope that the quality of the
fields will make the pain of the commute diminish! Maybe once the Valmont complex gets built out we'll be able to
play there, so I encourage you to stay informed and positively engaged on the development of that project.
And yes, Paco, thank you for providing the link (http://www.gru.org/about/volunteer) about the ways, both big and small, that people can get involved in Grass Roots Ultimate. Some recent example of new volunteerism include the recently scheduled women's clinics, hosting the UPA College Nationals, efforts to move toward zero-waste events at tournaments and parties. If you have some ideas or just time to give, make us an offer: board@....
Thanks.

Helping your favorite cause is as easy as instant messaging. You IM, we give. Learn more.
This free, beginner-oriented clinic will begin at
11am on Sunday. We'll do skills and drills for
about an hour and then hopefully scrimmage,
assuming we have enough women. Bring a light
and dark shirt for the scrimmage.
Weather Note: The clinic will only be held if the
temperature is 40 degrees or above. The current
forecast is for snow and 43 degrees, but things
change quickly. PLEASE check your email and the
weather before heading to Foothills Community Park
(Violet Fields) on Sunday.
Pray for good weather!
Hope to see a few people at the Pub tonight for
picking up flyers to recruit women for spring league
and announce the two women's clinics (3/2, 3/15).
I'll be there until 6:30pm and I hate to drink alone.
If ya can't make it, the flyers are on the GRU website
for downloading and distribution.
Thanks.

The City of Boulder has two opportunities to teach youth ultimate
frisbee.
The first is a volunteer position on Tuesday, March 4th from 5:30 -
7:00pm at the North Boulder Recreation Center Gymnasium (an outdoor
park is available if the weather is nice). The instructor would be
working with 10-15 middle school aged children in our Youth Services
Initiative (YSI) program to begin teaching them the fundamentals of
ultimate frisbee. Most of the children in the YSI program have
never thrown a frisbee before so the emphasis will be on basic
skills and creating a fun environment. If the initial class goes
well there might be more opportunities to work with this same group
the following Tuesdays during the month of March. As a volunteer
you would receive a 4 month City of Boulder Rec Center pass!
The second opportunity is a paid position as an instructor for our
spring Youth Ultimate Frisbee class. The class runs from 4pm-5:30pm
on Fridays from April 11 – June 13th at the Summit Middle School
fields. The students' age range, skill and experience will vary
greatly. The instructor should be comfortable teaching basic to
intermediate/advanced skills. Last fall was our first time running
this class and we had great success with 13 students signing up! We
hope to grow the class and build our program. All applications for
this position must be completed through the City of Boulder's
website (www.bouldercolorado.gov).
Please let me know if you are interested in either of the positions
by emailing me at mulderj@....
There is still space available in our Sunday, March 16th Youth
Ultimate Frisbee clinic. Email me for details or a flyer to post.
Our spring Youth Ultimate Frisbee class flyer will be on our website
(www.bouldercolorado.gov) soon but if you want one to post or hand
out just drop me a line (mulderj@...).
Thanks,
Joe Mulder
It's less than 3 months to go until the UPA College Championships come to Boulder (Friday to Sunday, May 16-18, at Pleasant View Soccer Complex.) Preparations are beginning in earnest, and I'll be coming back to this list to ask for more specific help as the time approaches.
However, one thing we have to get out pretty soon is an official tourney logo. Are there any artists who might be interested in helping us put something together? You will be appropriately compensated for your time and effort.
Please contact me off-list.
Thanks, OD TD, 2008 UPA College Championships samuelsd@...
If ya can't make Wednesday's flyer distribution
(see previous posting), you can download and
print the flyer(s) from th GRU website
(homepage, scroll down).
Thanks for the emails thus far wanting to help
out! Also, thanks to Derek S. for creating the
cool flyers.
e.
Help us recruit women for spring league by distributing
flyers throughout Boulder County and Broomfield. We'll
also have flyers for the two upcoming FREE women's
clinics in March.
I'll be at the Boulder Beer Pub from 5:30 -- 7 p.m.,
on Wednesday, Feb 27 with flyers. We need people to
hang them in rec centers, health clubs and other such
locations.
Thanks for your help.
e.
Is it possible/feasible to play in both the GRU and CUA leagues?
Which league is bigger/better competition?
Both are on Sunday, GRU in Broomfield, CUA in Commerce City. CUA runs
March 16 to May 18, GRU runs from March 23 to June 1.
Adam
That's right--we're hosting two women's
clinics this spring. Our first clinic is scheduled
for Sunday, March 2 from 11am-1pm. This
clinic is geared toward beginners and newbies,
but all skill levels are welcome.
Assuming we get enough women, we'll likely
have a good scrimmage after the clinic.
The second clinic is on Saturday, March 15 from
1-3pm and is geared more toward advanced or
intermediate players.
Both clinics will be at the Foothills Community
Park (off Broadway and Violet). A flyer will be
available to distribute in the next few days.
Pass on the info to all your women friends.
e.
Please note that if location of play is/was an issue for you, the location will be at the Broomfield Commons (where we played in the fall).

Hello my creative friends - Remember KGNU's Prairie Dog Sculpture
Auction from a few years back? Well, here is the next phase of Art in
Public Places. If you're not interested, please pass it on or just
delete. Others... read on!
Helen
Hi All,
Just a reminder that KGNU is launching an Art in Public Places Project
titled *Radioland*. Below is a description and important dates for
participation. If you are an Artist, or have some friends who might want to
participate, please forward this far & wide. Thanks in advance, Joanne
In May of 2008 KGNU will celebrate 30 years of broadcasting. KGNU is a
volunteer powered, listener supported, community radio station airing a
diverse array of music and independently produced national and local
news programming. In celebration of this milestone anniversary KGNU
will launch an Art in Public Places project titled Radioland.
The project begins with artists given a radio (or a radio of your choice
can be used) that will be turned into a piece of art. The object is to
deconstruct and reconstruct your radio into a relevant, provocative,
gorgeous piece of ART! You are invited to participate in this premier event.
All finished pieces will be displayed publicly in highly visible places
through out Boulder/Denver and the Front Range. We are asking that you
participate in the project by using your most creative ability to
manufacture, rebuild, generate, fashion, cast, hammer out, fabricate,
re-imagine, evolve the radio.
The event will culminate with an art auction to benefit KGNUs Operating
Budget (75% of sales will benefit KGNU, 25% of sale will benefit each
individual artist or may be donated back to KGNU).
We hope you will consider participating in this project. We look forward
to working with you.
Timeline:
Artist proposal deadline: EXTENDED to March 3rd 2008
Artist notification to participate: March 10th 2008
Artist time to work on piece: March through April 8th 2008
Finished pieces on Public Display: May 5th through July
Art Auction: Mid/late August 2008

### February 21 - David Plati - Sports Statistics - Wilderness Pub.
### Meeting within a Meeting Notice
### March 20 - David Banks Video Conference
We have a couple of fun events coming in the the next two months. The
first will
be this Thursday in Boulder. Details are below.
#### David Plati - Sports Statistics - Wilderness Pub.
This Thursday, February 21 from 6 - 8 at the Wilderness Pub (aka the
Rockies Brewery), David Plati will be talking about sports statistics. Part
of David's experience comes from working on the Broncos' statistical
crew. Think
it is difficult to find new ways to summarize and elicit information from
data in your field? Consider the challenge when there are millions of others
essentially looking at the same information. This will be an informal event
- similar to Paul Parker's talk about baseball and statistics 2 years ago.
More details will follow. For more information about David Plati -

If you think you will be attending, please send a note to
mjpdenver@..., so we reserve enough space.
For directions to the Rockies Brewery see www.boulderbeer.com.
### Meeting Within a Meeting.
The following is a note from the organizer of the Meeting within a
Meeting, teachers training sessions which will be held as part of
the Joint Statistical

#### David Banks - Duke University via video conference
Thursday March 20th - noon - University of Colorado - Denver
This will be our chapter's first speaker via video conference. David
is a co-editor of the recently published
Statistical Methods for Human Rights (Paperback) by Jana Asher
(Editor), David Banks (Editor), Fritz J. Scheuren (Editor). At the
last JSM, this was one of the late breaking topics sessions. The talk
will be held in one of Auraria Campus's multimedia rooms. Chapter members are
encouraged to join us for lunch and the talk. Details and directions
will be provided in the future.
Abstract.
Statisticians have been involved in different areas of human rights
research, from the trial of Slobodan Milosovic to designing surveys of
displaced populations to analysis of political science data. This
talk describes some of these applications and issues that arose in
performing them.

Subject: [gru] $500 wedding photographer (spam, but useful)
Hi,
My friend Simon Roberts has been doing assistant photography for several
weddings, and he's now doing weddings on his own, as well. One of the
options he offers is a nice low-cost $500 package, where you get:
- Five hours of his time on the day of the wedding shooting photos
- After the wedding, he'll give you all of the photos he took on CD, for
you to do with as you wish.
If you have a big non-wedding event coming up like a family reunion,
graduation, or birthday or anniversary party, then of course the same
offer is available.

Hi,
My photographer friend Simon Roberts is looking for couples (boy-girl
couples, for now) to practice taking photos of. If you show up and pose
for him for 1-2 hours, he'll give you three 8x10 prints of your choice
from the session shots.
He lives just a bit south of Interlocken in Broomfield, and is flexible
timewise.

Hey all. Thought some of you might be interested in this...
I have the Continental Divide Cabin, a brand new hut in the 10Th Mtn system, reserved for this Sunday and Monday nights. The hut sleeps 8 and like i said is brand new!! Unfortunately, I am stuck in LC and some others cannot make the trip either. Let me know if you are interested in any or all of the space.
If you have to work Tuesday, its possible to make it back in time, because the hike in to the hut is only 1 mile. And you will miss all the holiday traffic on Monday night!
