GRU Spring League Registration is Live! We are using a new vendor,
providing us with improved services. Most importantly for our players,
this means player profiles will be stored from season to season; credit
card information will not be stored.

Go to:
http://www.itsportnet.com/league.php?
scriptName=MEMBERLOGIN&leagueID=9653
and click on the Setup Login button to create your profile. Once you
are registered and logged in, click on the registration link, then
click on Adult Registration.

Because Spring League is shortened, it will be $35 and we will attempt
to have double headers each week. We will again be playing at Highland
Park in Broomfield. League begins with a clinic on April 3; league play
April 10-May 15; Spring tourney May 22. We will also have an All Star
game at the Summer League Clinic (June 12), so hold that date as well.

For those interested in captaining, the draft is tentatively set for
March 30. Registration closes March 24, so get to it!

See you on the fields.

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could recommend an electrician closeish to
Lafayette. I got new light switches put in yesterday and all of a sudden
about a fourth of the lights and outlets in my house don't work. I'd
like to find someone who could take a look at the house soon, Tuesday or
Wednesday.

If anyone has someone to recommend or if anyone is an electrician, that
would be dandy.

Thanks,
Solveig

*** 6th Annual GRASS Tourney 2005 ***
(Grass Roots Annual Savage Seven)

We've gotten an early jump on GRASS this year!

It will be played once again in scenic Westminster, CO at
the pristine Westminster Rec Center fields at 104th and
Sheridan on the weekend of June 4-5, 2005. Those of you who
played last year can attest to the quality of the fields
there, at least by Boulder standards. The format will be
Coed (4/3), with rosters capped at 10. Each game will be to
7, with 7 players selected before the first point to play
the entire game with no substitutions. Dinner will be
provided on Saturday night at the fields.

We can accomodate as many as 16 teams, so spread the word.
Deposit will be $100/team, with the total cost the same as last
year - $225/team.

Send bids, including a deposit check for $100 made out to
GRU, to:

Tyson Nunemacher

Hello all,

I'm passing along the email address of my friend, Nikki, who is a PhD candidate at CU studying learning disabilities. She needs to do some basic skills testing of several dozen 4 year children to be able to create standards by which to compare for disabilities.   She said that she'll be doing the study for a couple of years so she would love to hear from parents of 3 year olds, as well.

Please read her message below.  Her email address is as above: Davisgn@...  I wasn't able to forward the attachments.

Keenan,
I'll take all the help I can get. Filling size 12 shoes with anything
additional could only assist me with not "dragging" any other body parts
down the field. On a side note, it doesn't surprise me that you would bring
up such a reference to this group. Many of us (GRU) are aware of your sexual
deprivation condition (not that Jeff A & B are not assisting you) but after
witnessing your behavior several times at events last year I can see that
not even size 12 shoes could satisfy such a woman as you. I wish you luck
and will continue to support you as just another Jeff "notch" with your
condition.
Love,
Jeff S

Actually kickbacks aside, we're looking for a couple of business systems

Hey All, sorry for the intrusion.

Steve, if you are reading, please email me at nate@....
You are wanted for Fools Fest, and don't let something silly like
finishing grad school get in the way. :)

If anyone else can pass long contact info for Steven Rouisse, or
forward this to him, it would be much appreciated!

Thanks much,

Good job NASA; you've got your creative juices flowing!

maybe in (3) one team could be responsible for clean up / cones, etc;
(4) I like the charity idea- maybe we could donate the value of the
shwag instead of getting shwag;
(5) don't like it; there are enough byes with easters / presidents days
/ labor days / Australia day / the Melbourne Cup...
The others I could take or leave.

I also like the idea of choosing to huddle up after a game or do a
cheer; in the huddle a rep. from each team (often the captain) would
say some nice things about the opposing team; the other team would do
the same, then do a '3 cheers' together- they did it in Australia when
I was there & I kinda liked it...

I think it's great to be growing & thinking as a community!

Maybe see some of you Sunday;

-Greg

One of those points could have addressed the league spirit award concept.

An award acknowlege the team receiving the most points from voting by the
other teams encourages SOTG, creativity and fun.

Was it #8 or was it another number?

Hi all-
Since spring league is coming and also since there has
been lots of non-ultiamte spam, I thought I share some
new ideas for GRU. At one time this was my ten point
plan, but I can no longer remember points 7-10.

1)Reversible Jerseys. This idea has come up many
times before but has never been implemented. GRU
should consider printing high-end reversible official
GRU shirts that a player could used for many seasons.
Since a year would not be printed on the shirt, GRU
could then sell the inventory over many seasons.
Teams would always have dark and light colors. The
shirts would not be mandatory or free, but a player
would only have to make one initial purchase.

2)All-Star game. Each league team chooses 2-4 players
based on their own criteria (e.g. best attendance,
play, attitude) thus making two all-star teams. Then
there could be an all-star game for everyone to watch.
Maybe mixing players from the A-B levels?

3)Team sponsors- Each week one team would act as the
week's sponsor and attempt to do something creative
(e.g. Provide drinks) for the league. The
responsibility would rotate throughout the season.

4)Charity- Each team choses a charity to sponsor for
the season and plays on their behalf for the season.
The team that wins the league tournament gets to
donate proceeds to their charity.

5)Byes- Have more double headers on Sunday and then
have a weekend with no ultimate. This will make less
conflict on weekends with other non-ultimate related
plans. Plus, when you'll get more time to play when
you do have a game.

6)Team photos and post photos on the web page.

Take or leave these ideas as you please.
-BakerDave

Hey!

Some of you may have already seen this, but thought I'd run it by you
again since the book will be out in about a month...It's got some
great stories in it and some familiar names...

Thanks!

e.

A very exciting event is about to happen in the Ultimate world... the
first book chronicling the history of the sport is going to be
published. It will be a large 'coffee table' style book covering the
beginnings of the sport in the late '60s through today. And of course
it will include tons of great photos from 1968-2004 (many published
for the first time from both professional and amateur Ultimate
photographers). It also includes a DVD with never before seen play
footage and interviews with the founders of the sport.

This year-long project has been funded by Ultimate players and orders
can be placed now which will help defray the cost of printing.
Orders can be placed at http://www.ultimatehistory.com/order.html and
if you order now, you get a 5% discount. You also qualify for a
raffle. You can learn more about the book, DVD and raffle from the
website.

Two professional sports writers and long time Ultimate players, Tony
Leonardo and Adam Zagoria, are the senior writers and editors. The
book includes numerous sidebars written by the Ultimate players who
have lived our history in their own words. It also includes a chapter
on leagues and how they have grown dramatically in the US. There is
even a chapter on international development over the past three
decades. The appendix includes the results of every nationals,
rosters of every national champion team going back before the UPA,
and some very special personal accomplishments never compiled before.

The hope is that this book will help bring the Ultimate community
closer together as we all learn more of our heritage and traditions.
You'll learn about the people and teams who built the sport, who
almost won, and who won and the price they paid to reach the top.

Please support this project if you can. This may be the only written
history we'll get to show our families, children and friends.

Feel free to forward this message to your Ultimate friends and email
lists you are on, and even your family. The only way to spread the
word is with your help. So please make sure your teammates, ex-
teammates, leaguemates, etc. all know about "ULTIMATE: The First Four
Decades."
