This summer marks the 6th year that Critical Mass Leadership Education and the Denver community will be hosting students and teachers from the Greek and Turkish-speaking island of Cyprus! NEW this year as well is a similar program with a group of Romani/Gypsy teens and teachers from Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic.
There are three great opportunities to get involved:
- Host a teen or a adult teacher from Central Europe in your home from August 22nd - Sept. 6th (hosting a teen requires you have a teenager in your home as well)
- Participate in a climb up Mt. Audubon with the Cypriots on July 24th
- Support a Challenge Course day with the Cypriots on July 25th
Host Family Opportunity:
When: August 22nd - Sept. 5th - The participants would only be with you in the evenings and two full days during this time. The rest of the time they would be on short trips with us or workshops during the day.
Who: All participants speak English. The teen participants are from 15 - 18 years old and are interested in leadership and civic engagement. The adult participants are teachers or youth workers.
Where: We are looking for families in the Denver area

Hike and Challenge Course Days
Who wants to spend a glorious day hiking a Colorado 13er with a bunch of kids from Cyprus or supporting them on an exciting Challenge Course? We are looking for volunteers to help support the safety and enjoyment of these young people. They will be in the midst of a three week long conflict resolution program, and the mountain climb and challenge course is a key piece of their experience. The volunteers play a vital role and have a great time hiking with the different groups, belaying participants and cheering loudly! Below is the information about both events. For the hike, we will be leaving from the trailhead early in the morning, although there are camping locations at Brainard Lake. If you need something a little less rustic, we can arrange something at the location we will be staying at for a small cost.
Friday, July 24th - Mountain Hike - Mt. Audubon, Indian Peaks Wilderness - just west of Boulder - In the Brainard Lake area - $8 car - we would meet at the entrance station at 5:15 am. This is a classic Indian Peaks hike - lakes, great forests, flowers, cliffs, etc. If you would like to spend the night at Balarat Outdoor Education Center with us, just let me know and we will set that up.
Saturday, July 25th - Challenge Course - Balarat Outdoor Education Center - west of Jamestown, CO - 30 minutes from Boulder. We will send you directions. We will provide lunch for this day as well, and if you would like to stay for dinner and reflections about the day, we would love it. 9am - 4pm
