1.     Monday’s Class at Everton Hills PCYC – 25/8/08

Hi everyone

Rod will be unable to conduct his class on Monday 25th August at the PCYC at Everton Hills.  Rod has asked Simon Russell Sensei to teach his class on that night.

Many of you will be unfamiliar with Simon.  He is a very long time member of the club and highly experienced.  He put together the Aikido Yuishinkai DVD set which, if you own it, you will realise is an enormously valuable resource for every Aikido Yuishinkai student.  He has been unable to train regularly in 2008, but he was able to conduct a Friday lunchtime class at Dutton Park in 2007.  I was a regular, and can thoroughly recommend his classes.

Simon has a strong interest in exploring and improving his aikido by also training in other martial arts, in particular Ba Gua, a Chinese ‘internal’ martial art.  Aikido Yuishinkai is ‘aikido without boundaries’.  We are encouraged to examine our aikido from time to time through the prism of other styles of aikido, and even through other martial arts.  When we make such an effort to expand beyond our comfort zone (something we’re often doing within aikido after all), it often helps us to better understand our aikido, as we consider similarities and why they exist, and look for differences and why they exist also.  It gives us increased awareness and usually a greater appreciation for aikido.

So if you want to experience something a little different, come along and join Simon and myself, and meet our fellow club members who train at Everton Hills dojo.  Let me know at steve@..., or on 0432 269 534 if you’re interested in coming (class is 6.30pm to 8.30pm), and we might be able to organise a lift.

2.     Billeting Required for Japanese Visitors

We have four (4) people coming from Japan who will need Billeting. These visitors are students of Maruyama sensei from Tokyo or Osaka regions. Japanese people are wonderful house guests being almost invisible at times, very clean and polite. It is a great opportunity to get to know some aikidoka from across the water and  probably will be invited to visit them at some stage.

Two (2) Males and two (2) Females, I know that one has reasonable English. They each need single accommodation.

If anyone can help much appreciated.  Please email aikido@...
