1.     Aikido At Marsden High School

Hi everyone

The club was approached late last year to deliver a series of 10 aikido classes to 15 year old kids (5 for boys and 5 for girls) from Marsden High School Special Needs Unit, with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder).  It is quite exciting that the club has been asked to do this.  I have been asked to deliver the classes, and Chris Cobban will be assisting.  This program is being conducted at Crestmead Community Centre, and started this week on Tuesday 22nd.

My reason for letting everyone know is that some club members may well be very interested in this sort of activity, and if you are, you’re welcome to join us.  Please let me know (steve@... or 0432 269 534) if you would like to observe, and I’ll give you all the details of times and exact location and who’s driving down to Logan if you were after a lift.

2.     Storage Space Required for Mats

Hi everyone

As you will be aware, the club is going from strength to strength, and we are blessed with strong growth in membership and activities, including external activities.  We have applied for and received grants which have resulted in new mats, 3 of which you will have been rolling on recently at Nathan.  Aren’t they nice J?

It’s a great problem to have, but we are a little short of storage space (our cupboard area is bursting) as we have old mats which have lots of life left in them, and we will soon be receiving a number of new jigsaw mats which will be well used at external activities into the future.

Are there any club members who may be able to offer some storage space to assist us?  Please let me know at steve@... or on 0432 269 534.

Thanks.

Steve Mitchell

3.     News From Jutta Sensei

Dear Gary,

Had a chance to read your comments in Shukan news yesterday.  I am now in Hamburg, but will be heading back to Holland by train on Monday 28th.  Very sad to see ones hometown being overtaken by big shopping centers.  All the lovely old shops have closed down.  The ones one knew through generations.  The whole place has lost its idyllic charm.  My brother has taken me for several nice drives and the awakening of spring is very pronounced.  That I enjoy.  I have tried to visit the local Yuishinkai dojo, but it happens to be in a place similar to the valley.  I certainly have no intention to go there at night.  It would take a couple of trains and then by foot.  I also have tried to ring the dojo teacher, but the phone number I was given is wrong. I will try to find her in the internet later on.  Apart from everything I am looking forward to get home. Although my brother is doing everything to make my stay enjoyable.   What is amazing are the bakeries. There is a different one on each corner.  Once can find 5 bakers within 20 meters.  The variety of break is unreal.  Of course also very tempting.

Hope everything is going well in the club.  Please take this little script in to the dojo in case someone is interested to know whether I am still alive.  As I have not heard from anyone, I presume all is going first rate. Meetings must have taken place without any problems.

Give my best wishes to everyone.

Kind regards,

Jutta

I invite any member of the club to submit articles and information to the Shukan News.  Recently, I have taken the opportunity to share the clubs goals and activities with you but over time, it should contain more diverse material.  We welcome anything that is related to Aikido or martial arts in general.  This might include a book review, an interesting extract from a book, a tale of your Aikido related personal experience, a seminar summary, something humorous or something that might be of interest to readers.  Please send your contributions to our Editor, Shirin at shirin@...
