2. Annual General Meeting – Griffith Aikido Inc.
On Tuesday night Griffith Aikido Institute Inc. held its first Annual General Meeting as an incorporated association. It was good to see a strong membership turnout to support the AGM although the promise of pizza may have helped. Without too much whipping and cajoling, the new office bearers are:
President – Gary Weigh
Vice President – Jutta Dowdy
Secretary – Steve Mitchell
Treasurer – Vacant (no nominations received)
Head Instructor – Danny James
I would like to say a special thanks to Danny for his many years of dedicated hard work in building the club we have today. It is fair to say that without Danny we simply would not have a club. He is an extraordinary teacher and a quiet, confident leader with seemingly endless patience and persistence. I am so glad he is happy to remain with the club as our Head Instructor and I hope he will continue in that role for many years to come. I would also like to thank Jutta Dowdy and Steve Mitchell for the enormous amounts of hard work that they did for the club in 2007. Together with Danny, they are the ‘rocks’ of our club.
I am not sure that everyone realises that the monthly mat fees you pay are for the provision of the facilities (premises, mats, weapons etc). The expert instruction that we all receive is given for free. It is the same in most Aikido Yuishinkai dojos. None of our dojo instructors are paid to teach. They, like the office bearers mentioned above, give their time and expertise freely and they turn up week in week out regardless of how they feel and regardless of what else is happening in their lives. So a big thanks to our other ‘sometimes taken for granted’ dojo instructors Rod Nixon-Smith, Ben Tan, Steve Mitchell and Steve Dows. It’s also great to see our new black belts and 1st Kyu’s- Paul, Tim and Chris, volunteering to teach. We are certainly in good hands on the mat!
I was heartened that so many people offered their help to the club executive before and after the AGM. Thank you very much to Mary, Gabby, Sheree, Aran, Fleur, Karen and Ben H. Your many hands will make the business workload much lighter into the future, not to mention the additional brain power that we can tap into. In that department I can use all the help I can get.
We have determined our strategy in planning meetings over the past two years and now have a lot to do in 2008 as we grow our association and continue to take Aikido into the community. We have our sights firmly set on our own dojo within the next three years and with Sheree as our new self appointed Social Director it looks like the journey there will be a beauty.
Best wishes for a prosperous 2008
3. Electronic On-Line Payments
We are endeavoring to reduce the number of cash transactions at the dojo door. In fact we would like everyone to pay their monthly fees electronically so that the only cash transactions at the dojo would be Gi, weapons and books / DVD. We have introduced an online subscription option on the Griffith Aikido website http://griffithaikido.com which allows you to set up ongoing monthly payments either from your bank account or credit card. There is a link in the middle of the home page. We use Pay Pal as the third party payment intermediary, which we have found to be accurate and reliable with electronic seminar payments over the past two years. You can unsubscribe at any time. You will be in total control of your monthly mat fee payments. All we will have to do is tick your name off as your payment advice is emailed to us. In addition we also offer the Ezi-Debit system which similarly debits ongoing monthly fees directly from your bank account or credit card. To use this system, please ask at the dojo. Please, please help us to streamline our administration by switching from cash payments to your choice of electronic payment. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
